Hi ! :D

I'm kind of stuck in a rut. I've been working the same job for the last few years. Not going anywhere ( not that I expect to at my current company ) , and I can't seem to get up off my duff to go out and do what needs to be done so I can move forward.

Which is ( basic outline )
-- get a decent job ( 12.00 an hour + )
-- get myself enrolled into college
-- get myself a new car ( old one is getting old)

Not that I can't do these things. I just have no drive to do so.

So... trying not to be the loser that I'm slowly becomming ( in terms of life accomplishment ). I'm thinking of enrolling into a branch of the military. I'm thinking the air force, since they might have the jobs that I might be interested in. Signing up for a 4 year term.

It would give me :

- Physical and job training ( depending on the job )
- A steady job
- Money for college

I'm wondering what you guys think about this. And if you have any advice.

I wish I thought of the military a option when I was your age. :(

I say go for it. You might even get to have a vacation in Liberia. :p :D

First, being in the military isn't for everyone. Not that that's bad thing, it's just like college... which is also not for everyone.

In my experience I can say that the military will give you anything you want to take from it.

Experience, training, seeing the U.S. from the rest of the world's perspective, decent pay (much better now!) , comradery (overseas more than stateside) that you just can't get anywhere else.

Physical conditioning, not really.. we're doing more but if you really want that join the Army or the Marines, in the AF you use your head more than you use your hands. Don't let basic fool you.

The other part is we tend to travel a lot more now than anytime in our past, as such. If you have a family, you won't see them for a good 3 months out of the year.

Money for college, if this is prime reason for going into the service, don't go. There are loans and grants that will help you. Go for country, go to make yourself a better, wiser person. Going for college funds its a good enough reason to be responsible for the death of another human being. Which is what being in the military is.

All in all I had a good run, would I do it again. Yes. The boy that joined at 19, is a far better man at 28 after the experience.

I was going to join the Royal Marines myself, still could I guess if I started training for a few months. But I really hate been away from home, its one of the few things that gets me down. So the military would not be suited to me really:D

Just think if I joined when I wanted to I would be in Iraq now:eek: :D

A few of my friends were in the first Iraq war.

a few of mines are still in the 2nd ;)

go for it, you don't have anything to lose really, and you have everything to gain. AF housing is like luxury compared to the Marines(I should know, I deal with it every friggin' day:D) and the Army.

Besides, you can gain alot of skills and on hands experience(which is what employers look for) and it will look real nice on your resume;)

who knows, you may like it and decide to stay, or just put money into your GI bill and you'll have a great way to get into college and stuff.

Military may not be for everyone, but heck, if you don't try it out you'll never know. Go for it I say:thumbsup:
