So...I realized that I didn't T2 on DVD, and decided to go out and rectify that immediately. The Extreme DVD looked pretty good, especially because it had a new transfer and the extra HD Media Player 9 theatrical version of the movie as well - I was looking forward to that one (recommended resolution is 1600x1200).

But I shove the disc into my computer and find out that in order for me to watch it, I have to be connected to the internet. I understand the need for DRM on something like this, but my PC's not hooked up to the internet, and I'm not going to transplant my modem from my surfing box to my high end machine every time I want to watch the movie. Is there any way that I can somehow circumvent this protection? It's bad enough that I have to install the Interactual DVD player software in order to access the stinking link in the first place, but every time I watch it I have to get a license online? Anyone have any ideas?

Someone pays their $24.99 (well I didn't look at the specific price on this one, though the T2 DVD I bought about 1.5 years ago or so might have been more due to the mettle box and all else) and now has to ask permission every stinken time someone wants to watch something...bah. I could just see the recording industry say "no, buy me again, you watched it a 100 times". I wouldn't put it past them.

Glad I bought my copy of the movie (and yes it does have the theatrical version though it might not have the newer presentation when I did. Having to ask to watch something I bought would drive me nuts. Next thing we'll have is "can I turn on my TV set, or do I need permission for that too...despite I pay the electric bills".

At least I don't have to get a license online every time I want to watch the normal resolution DVD. Still...1600x1200 T2 is something I want to lay my eyes on. And thanks to this nifty license thing, I can't even touch the flanging thing.

What's ironic about this liscensing thing and DRM is which version (higher or normal resolution) would be easier to rip and upload somewhere. Normally, with everything I've seen so far at least, the higher the resolution, the more bits involved...

BTW, if you haven't seen the version that has the deleted scenes, there are some slight differences. For instance the one shown in the theaters don't show John and Sarah taking the CPU out of the terminator to look at...and Sarah wanting to smash it but John insisting, no we need him now...

at first when i saw that, and it was advertised as HD and **** like that, i was pretty pissed....i just got the "special edition" T2 dvd a while ago. but after hearing this and looking at the requirements on the back of the box.....screw it. i'm keeping my current copy.

I still find it odd that they've managed to make a movie with higher system requirements then any game...

And that does sound like it sucks. I didn't even have internet a year ago, so I wouldn't have been able to watch the high-quality version at all if it came out then. Not to mention on my current 56k it's annoying having to dial it up and stuff. Hmm, I wonder if you could get a program that disables the protection or even download a version of the high-res video with that protection already disabled. It's sad when we have to circumvent copy protection in order to view something we legally own.

It's even worse if you live outside the US and Canada - When you try to acquire the license the licese server does a reverse DNS lookup to see where you are located. If you're outside the US and Canada, it politely tells you where to shove your Ultimate Edition DVD.
