View Full Version : Refuse 9600 and get 9600 pro?
I ordered a 9600 Radeon when I really wanted the Pro. Allstarshop.com said that if I refuse the package that I can get a full refund. I want to start playing games now and am wondering since i've been using a Rage 128 ulltra:
How will Battlefield 1942 and Planetside work on my computer
with the Radeon 9600 and a Intel Pentium 3 Processor 1.1 GHZ
and Intel Celeron Processor ata 1.1 GHZ.
If im not gonna get lag/skips whatever to slow my game down
i'll take the radeon 9600
If chosing the Radeon 9600 Pro means no skips or FAR FEWER ( A BIG DIFFERENCE) skips than the 9600 pro- ill refuse the package and buy the 9600 pro.
thanks guys

well it might just mean lowering a resolution to 800*600 or less...
so going to 800 x 600... would that be a lot worse quality or would it be good quality and no skips...

Your always going to be CPU limited anyway so i doubt the 9600pro will offer you anything over the 9600 (anything significant that is) and if i was you i would have gone for a Geforce4 Ti4200 instead actually but :)
You're saying the GF 4 at $103 is better then the Rad 9600 a $130 card?

Yep, the 9600pro (or 9600 even) is fine if you have a higher end system and plan on overclocking etc, even the Geforce4 Ti4200 overclocks good too.
But with a 1.1Ghz P3 or Celeron you wont get any extra benifit from newer mid-range cards until you upgrade the rest of your system (you will be using SDR RAM i assume for instance). You wont have AGP8x, so you will be at 4x or even 2x if you mainboard is older (not that 8x AGP add's much but its something u get and pay for and wont have support for) and DX9 support....
You dont need any of those and your paying for features your not going to use. From what you say id either keep the 9600 they are sending you or send it back and get a Ti4200 and save yourself some money. :)
The 9600Pro is going to have faster rams and will overclock very well. If you paid for a Pro and did not get one, then send that puppy back.
i payed for the 9600. I've been told with my CPU its not a big difference to get the pro. I may just keep the 9600 that arrives on wednesday unless someone can convince me that its a huge difference (keeping my cpu in mind)

I would keep that non pro, your slow cpu would bottleneck anything faster anyhow. a ti4200 is faster in todays games but it may not run right or fast on dx 9 games. basically a ti4200 is the best card until 2005 or something LOL
