Mel Gibson directed this movie called The Passion.
I'm religious and believe in Jesus Christ with all my heart..This film costed him 25 million to develop and looks to stir up some controversy..I was totally touch by this clip from the movie..I heard about this file about 6 months ago and have been anticipating its arrival to the big screen..
Its the way the world should see Jesus and how he died for our sins..I liked Jesus of Nazereth but I think this is going to blow it out of the water...Mel Gibson is a brilliant man..This movie is all done in aramaic :( ...With english subtitles..
Very touching..Im speechless..
***WARNING***
Lots of blood and gore involved..

I remember that when Jesus Christ Superstar was released as a movie, it was controversial and shunned by many. I remember when The Last Temptation of Christ was released as a movie, it was controversial and shunned by many. Any Mel Gibson movie about Jesus will probably be brilliant, but it will certainly be controversial, and shunned by many.
The religious--orthodox and atheist* alike--invariably find something wrong whenever someone else interprets God for us. That's part of being human, I guess. However, trouble occurs when people stop considering others' different opinions. That's when we see things line Crusades and Inquisitions.
* Insisting there is no God is every bit as religious as saying there is one.
The problem with The Last Temptation of Christ was that it was a lie and made to slam believers. That being said the best way to deal with a film like that was to ignore it. It was a terrible film and failed not because it was contraversial but because they had to subpoena people to see it. It was just a bad flick and as a result the hubbub whent a way in a few weeks.
The contraversy about this film is just plain rediclous. ADL just wants Mel to alter history so they wont "feel" bad.
Oh my Lord! I don't know what to say after seeing that. I don't cry easy but that did it. The water works came a gushing.

I agree I watched about 20 minutes and turned it off. If that was a so called interpretation then it was a bad one. This IMO was made for the secular/profane..

ditto..
last temptation of christ is a critically acclaimed movie.. naturally it was controversial in many respects... but personally... I thought it was a pretty well made film...

Of course the critics loved it but it was not that good a film and it did poorly in the theaters. Of course it's all a matter of opinion. Ever notice that most critically acclaimed films are dark and disturbing and usually, I usually do not do well in the box office. In my opinion the critics are wrong in those cases. If the people like it and that is who the movie was intended for then it is a good movie.

I don' t know if it is bad or not from that trailer but they did torture Jesus and he was torn up. It was not a nice nice execution.

a lot of good movies don't do so well @ the box office... while crud such as daredevil/charlies angels et al make millions... box office is not such a good judge of the movie :)
I watched it... and I enjoyed it... I love willem dafoe as an actor and I thought he did a commendable job...
harvey keitel was also quite brilliant...

The box office isn't a good judge of the movie? If no one enjoys sitting through a movie then how can it be a good movie. There are lots of well done and well acted movies that are complete garbage. I say the box office is the best indicator if a movie is good or not. You don't make movies out of the sheer goodness of your heart. You make them to make money. Only eliteist snobs who are already rich say they make movies for the passions. What a load of garbage. They already made their millions now they can throw that line out at us.

Looks like a very well made movie, a tear jerker for all those who believe.
I am not one of them. ;)

great read.. how about this... I watch movies that interest me... not because of how much skin is shown but the story... I happen to be a fan of the book the movie was based on... and therefore I watched the movie and was happy with the product I spent my money watching...
:)
I will likely watch Passion because my gf is interested to see how they will pull off the movie with no subtitles... in aramaic and other tongues... she happens to be a classics major...
btw.. that eliteist snob comment sort of puts mel gibson's movie out of the picture in terms of you watching it then don't it :D since he is making the movie for his passion and convictions and beliefs ?
BTW I was just messing with ya. I could really care less about who thinks what is good. ;)

he did say a lot of people converted to the faith during the making of the movie since they all got so involved in it..
I wonder how hard the classes for learning aramaic were.. I mean it is not an easy lingo by any means...

Jesus was tortured, yes, but that's just too much, and goes against the physical evidence.
I cried when I went to go see Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat with Donny Osmand (3 times), but I usually am a sceptic of movies like these until I see it.
I will still see the movie, Mel is a good man.

Mel Gibson is brilliant and I like everything he does. I was litterally floored with his last flick "We Were Soldiers" - excellent film. I liked it better than "Saving Private Ryan". As for this flick, I'm gonna see it but I don't want to view the MOV file and spoil some of the movie. Also, I don't "read" my movies so...if there isn't going to be an English dub, I might not watch it period - too much of a chore.

I could only watch we were soldiers once. Excelent film. That nah palm scene was too much for me. I felt for both sides.

I don't know how bad it was but I do know from everything I've read that is was bad.

/me points to the amount of money that Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle has made
Look at Kubrick... often panned at release, did poorly at the box office, and then 5 or 10 years later they're called some of the greatest films ever.

I don't put much stock in what a bunch of writers and reveiwers say about the top movie list of all time. We both know this is so subjective a topic. It is like the greatest soccer palyer of all time, do you go by stats or by wins or by how the fans loved him or how he contributed to the team?
We all have terribly made movies we love to watch over and over.

Are you basing the psysical evidence from the Shroud of Turin? There still is question whether or not it is the actual shroud. I tend to lean that it is but it really isn't important that it is or not. We are as you know supposed to put our faith in the salvation he gave us and not in a religious relic. It is a nice symbol but not necessary for belief.
I don't know if Jesus was torn up that. I do think Mel wanted to show how heavey the burden of the weight of the world's sins were on him and the only way it could actually be show is by the psysical damage the torture did. This is my interpritation of why he showed so much savageness in the final days.

It is a nice symbol but not necessary for belief. I don't need a physical item to know what I believe in. I've read the Bible taking some words back to the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek for the true meanings, and the evidence is there.
But I DO believe the Shroud is real (read "Portrait of Jesus" by Frank C. Tribbe), and I take it seriously as a relic. Blood is on there, yes, dripping from his arms, yes. There are about 135 scourge marks on his body, mostly on his back, shoulders, hips and thighs, some in other spots too, like his chest.
I cry a lot just thinking of it, mostly because I know I could never go thru something like that, even if I knew things would be ok the next day.
