is one 5870 more powerfull and faster than sli evga gtx 260 core 216's?

is their a lot of problems with this card? how are the drivers? is it worth it to move to one of these cards?

i kinda want to upgrade to one i guess even though i can run anything i just want something new

The 5870 trades blows with the GTX 295- which trades blows with GTX260 SLi IRCC.

So you'll probably only get slightly better performance, but it'll consume less power, run cooler, and leave you open to add a second 5870 later- though noticing you have an SLi mobo to go CrossFire you'd have to get a new mobo. :o

Yeah I thought about the same swap. It's not really an upgrade. Gonna wait for the Fermi benchies.

Although I havent seen any benchmarks between the two configs I'd say that 5870 is more powerful than 260 SLI cause the 5870 trades blows with GTX295(geforce 295GTX=2x geforce 275). 5870 runs just fine and drivers are also pretty good.
Geforce 260 sli is still a pretty powerful combo if you want my opinion.Maybe you should wait a bit or use the money for a mobo-cpu upgrade.

Wait for Fermi, if nothing else the 5870 will be cheaper at that point.

In Crysis, just about the only game you need two GPU's, two 260's kick ass (260's and the 295 are about the same in performance).

And because of the poor crossfire scaling, even two 5870's can't match two 260. OK, in most other games the 5870 kicks ass, but still.. :D

and as for ram that mobo supports 1066 my current ram is(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166) how about I get that processor and motherboard put my current ram into it and if I can get 64 bit working ill up it to like 8gb's or 6gb's, how much better is DDR3 ram compared to DDR2?

okay thanks everyone for the replies I guess I should wait for Fermi

and this thread is supposed to be called From SLI 260 to a 5870 but might as well call it the Upgrades thread and be moved

Youre going to want ddr3 1600 for a core i7 system. And 6gb of it in 3 DIMMS.

That way you have some overclocking headroom and triple channel access.

Not true.

i7 supports single, double, and triple channel. You're not limited to only triple channel. I know cause I'm rocking 4GB (2x2GB) in dual channel right now with an i7 920.

you dont need the extreme i7. get the 920. get the gigabyte UD3R. Get 6 gigs of OCZ or Corsair Ram.

I'm very happy with my OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1600, I get timings of, 7-7-7-18. When I purchased it about 9-10 months ago it was $100, now they are around $185.
