Geforce GTX 480 aims for €450 price

Shops might go higher
It is quite natural that the most famous and yet delayed chip called Fermi won’t be cheap but it turns out that it won't be that expensive either.
People have expected single GPU Geforce GTX 480 to end up at close to $600 or €600 in Europe after tax but it turns out that the amount Nvidia wants for its new high end card should be closer to €450.
Note that high demand might easily make shops push this price even further but Nvidia's suggested retail price should end up around €450 including VAT. Higher prices will be reserved for some dual card that is supposed to come in the next few months.
Since most available Radeon 5870 cards are selling at €375 and higher, we believe that Nvidia's price is quite OK, and some partners have told us that Nvidia might have plenty of cards to launch on the 27th.
If this ends up being accurate I think we'll see a price drop on the 5000-series soon! ;)
It seems like there might not be enough cards for everyone on NVNEWS that wants one. LOL.

As long as I get one, I don't care :D

That's actually what I am waiting for. Waiting for that price drop on the 5870 to $350. Then I will snag one :)

If that translates to £450 then it's probably just a tad too expensive for me :( At £400 I would almost certainly pick one up (if I could find one ;)) Couldn't spend more than £400 on a graphics card...
What ever the launch price, e-tailers will still gouge I bet.
Yeah, just a touch cynical there...;)

yes in real world. but in electronics world 450€ usually ends up 450$

Not anymore; the US price is usually 100$ higher.

I really do want one. My gtx280 is still kicking ass at 1280x720 though in my basement. This may be the first time in my life I wait for a refresh card. Whenever I do get a Fermi I think at that rez (which I am surprisingly happy with sitting 20 feet away) I may be fine until directx 12.

well who knows if the €450 price is even accurate, let alone if that will translate directly to $. it's still just a rumor after all. but hypothetically I think that would be a good price :wonder:
That seems like a very attractive price. How better the performance of the GTX 480, the less impact price drops from AMD might have due to the GTX 480's price/performance ratio.
If the performance is not as good as expected, than AMD will IMHO gain a lot from their price drops.
Anyway, it sounds very interesting to hear reasonable prices. I wonder how this will play out and if this will lead to any big changes in the current graphics landscape.
Geforce GTX 470 to cost €349
£299 in the UK
We managed to get some additional prices of upcoming Fermi-based cards and the slower of two will sell for €349 or £299 in the UK market.
The plan is to attack the Radeon HD 5870, which is currently selling at roughly the same or a very similar price, as Geforce GTX 470 should end up at least slightly faster in most benchmarks.
We would not be surprised to see ATI dropping Radeon HD 5870 price further down, but this is yet to happen. Bear in mind that ATI increased HD 5850 prices a few weeks following the launch, so it clearly has some room to tweak the prices.
Of course, these are Nvidia’s recommended prices and they include taxes, distributor, partner costs and the shop’s part of the financial cake. However, as we warned you yesterday, the shops might increase the price if they feel like that the product will see huge demand and if it sells great.
This is the price to hope for on launch day, March 27th in Europe and March 26th in the US, but only if Nvidia sticks to what it said in its announcement.

sheesh, another delay. only to April 6 though for retail availability. the NDA still expires on March 26th.

Thanks to one of our very good contacts with a partner of Nvidia, we are able to confirm the postponement of the release of GTX 470 and GTX 480 from Nvidia.
According to our reliable source, it will not be before April 6 that should be available in-store cards. The reason for this delay is simple, Nvidia has still not provided the frequency of its new graphics cards to its partners.
Apparently, the photos qu'Inno3D leaked through Guru3D were just empty boxes made to create buz. This also worked very well.
Equally disturbing, partners today still do not know how many cards they may have for the day of the official release.
Also according to our contact, the Fermi would very performance oriented Tessellation of DirectX 11. This is also what we saw in the bench of Heaven Unigine that Nvidia has made recently.
Of course, titles like Just Cause 2 and Metro in 2033 who board every two middleware technologies from Nvidia, as Cuda or PhysX were also big winners on Fermi.
^
6 April now? I guess things are still not going entirely smoothly for Nvidia yet, they must really be working in overdrive now in these final weeks. The point that the partners still don't know the amount of cards for release is not good news either.
It is a good thing to read NDA hasn't changed.
Can't believe they're still finalizing clocks :o How can that be?!

Seems like they are trying to keep the leaks to a record minimum. Reviewers should get the cards soon, but without final clocks or a driver, the leaks will be pretty much worthless.
Also the explanation behind the postponed retail availability points to that direction. They don't wanna even let the AIB's see these cards before the launch or so I've heard.
So they are saying that the Fermi will have its second paper launch in 9 days (the first one being the white paper launch in September).

Ah, good point. They've done well to keep performance figures under wraps until so late in the game. I can see why they're doing it, but it's a pain in the ass :D

Or maybe,ATI has a little driver surprise being released tomorrow....The catalyst 10.3a preview driver and get a load of the speed ups on several games, and not just for the HD5*** series, but even the older HD4*** cards.
Funnier still that the WHQL version comes out 2 days before the 26th of march, which is when Nvidia makes the official unveiling of Fermi.
