Got this inna email, dunno if been posted.....

We are proud to present the EVGA Classified SR-2, the absolute ultimate for the extreme user. It takes everything that made the X58 Classified 4-way SLI motherboard great and doubled it up. Now you can experience the ultimate in overclocked multithreaded performance by way of Dual 1366 sockets which allow for hyper-threaded Intel Xeon CPUís to be combined together for massive amounts of workload to be spread across a multitude of processing threads.

When combined with compatible Intel 6 Core CPUís, you create a massive system capable of up to 24 CPU threads of compute power. If you want future-proof, this is it!

No no no... Xeon DPs.

Posted this before in the R3E thread:

I said it a few times already but that EVGA board is not as revolutionary as it may seem. Similar workstation boards are available since Nehalem's launch back in 2008.
The only thing that sets it apart is the overclockability and the two NF200 chips.

But the EVGA SR-2 only makes sense for CPU heavy tasks and/or a Tesla based system. Having so many threads does nothing for gaming, hell even the 980X adds nothing when it comes to games. And you really need to spend some money for those DP Xeons ;) The 980X Xeon DP equivalent is somewhere around $1600 - and you'll need two of them :) Even the cheaper and lower clocked Xeon DPs, as mentioned before, are around $1000 a piece.

Ya, was just reading up on it. Thanks. :)

Ya, it's pricey. I'll stick to a normal board for now,

Pfft what is $600 for the board when you have $3200 in CPUs?

The Darth or jackup guys will have one in their rigs seeing how much they can afford for this stuff.

I had a skulltrail which was juk and the cpu's where't the right ones anyway and this board isn't all that bad but the cpu's are prcey.

You bought the wrong cpu's for your skulltrail rig, Bigman?

Mr Bigman

Yes i did and thats why couldn't get it to work right.

Actually my brother sent me the worong ones so and he says that they would work with dual cpu server boards but the pinouts were wrong so i sold the stuff last year on craigs to an indiana guy and used that to get some better stuf the I7

Did you try to muscle them into the wrong sockets?

tHEY WURE SOCKET 771'S SO IT SHOULD OF WORKED BUT THEY WEREN'T THE ONES THAT I WOULD USE 2gHZ CPU'S DUAL CORES BUT THEIR WERE ISSUES WITH MEMORY AND SETTINGS AND INTEL DOENS'T GIVE ALOT OF SETTINGS SHOVS.

tHIS BOARD LOOKS GOOD SO MAY CHECK IT OUT.

No no no... Xeon DPs. You need two QPI links for Nehalem SMP.

Yea, these dual socket server boards aren't anything new. IIRC, Tyan released a dual socket Opteron board a few years back that had 4 PCIe slots. Some guy here ran two Opteron's (at the time were the fastest) and 4 6800 Ultra cards along with 16GB of ECC RAM. I still have pics of the setup somewhere. It was unbelievable back in 2005. The funniest part is that the machine wasn't even used for gaming. The guy worked with medical images (which can easily exceed 8GB a piece) hence his need for serious GPU/CPU/RAM. It was crazy
