Hi all,
lately I have noticed a few examples of people posting blatant spoilers for new release games. For example, some clown has posted screen shots of the ending cinematic of Metro 2033 in the Metro 2033 thread. In the Stalker COP thread, there were significant spoilers about the ending of the game.

I am currently playing through these games and I don't want the ending spoiled for me. These are very story driven games and any spoilers really do detract from my enjoyment of the game.

Please do not post spoilers without hiding the offending text behind spoiler alerts etc.

This stuff is common game forum etiquette.

I would also like to see greater moderation from forum moderators to clean up this stuff. This board is pretty self moderating, and I do like it that way, but I would appreciate it if spoilers could be dealt with when a moderator finds one.

Thanks for listening.

Tell me about. Some tend to go screen shot crazy showing critical parts of games you rather experience on your own. Be discreet about the screen shots you are taking even in the official screen shot thread especially if its from a game you torrented and is not in the hands of many users that's waiting to buy it or unlock it on steam.

Agreed, this forum has always been too spoiler-filled, and those Metro shots were ridiculous.

Doesn;t bother me one bit. Honestly, if you haven't even played the game, how the f*ck would you know what part of the game is being captured.....

Perhaps we are playing the game and are just not that far yet?

my point is, how would you know that is the ending? for all you know,it could be around the next corner on the second level or something? did he label it as the ending?

When you see the end credits over the top of a screenshot it kinda gives it away.

Agree. Non-labeled spoilers should be banned for a month.

LOL a month? That punishment is ridiculous.

Intentional spoilers will get at least 1 warning before a maximum ban of a week.

I will bring it to the attention of the other mods.

I have removed the spoilers in the Metro thread. From now on, please just PM me if you see spoilers with no tag.

Honestly, is there a need to make posts like this and rile everyone up? Just PM a mod or report the post and it will be taken care of.

Another option is to not go through those threads while you're playing through the game. I thought that solution would be the most obvious, especially if it's happened to you before. :|

Is not going in the thread really a solution though? The official thread should be about game discussion, help, cool things or occurences. I often go into game threads during my play through just to see what people are doing differently or how to get passed a hard section.

I understand it's hard to define what is a spoiler and what isn't. Clearly things like the ending and major story twists will ruin your experience. Talking about normal characters, monster types or weapons may not.

The objective of the thread wasn't just to call out that there are spoilers for Metro but rather remind people who do post spoilers without thinking to stop it.

A good fair policy regarding story type or major events is to put it in spoiler tags when in doubt.

on second thoughts it might be better to PM this message.

ok I will take your suggestions on board. The purpose of this thread was to proactively discourage the somewhat widespread practice of posting spoilers, rather than relying on reactively removing offending posts after the game has been spoiled for forum readers.

How do you propose we stop people from posting spoilers before they do it? I can post rules and Stickies about how people should not post spoilers until I am blue in the face, but people rarely read it or just ignore it because they want to be assholes.

We will post some Gaming Central rules and sticky it. It will deal with repeat threads, spoilers, and posting screenshots of pirated software, and whether or not they get a warning and the minimum bans associated with each.

Then, PM a mod when you have problem and we will take care of it.

your suggestion of not going through threads while playing the game is not very practical. I don't think anyone on this forum would wait till they finnished the game before going back and reading through 50 pages of posts. Official game threads usually contain information about tweaking/settings that are a good source of info for those trying to tweak the game to get the best performance. and in general, official game threads are full of people discussing the game while they are playing through it.

It may not be practical, but it will certainly prevent you from seeing spoilers. I can't think of another solution that has a 100% success rate.

EDIT: Just saw you edited your post. I still think the first part of this post is the best solution and a long awaited item for these Gaming Forums.

That's why I avoid game threads on any site until I've finished the game: Because of the amount of douches who are too lazy to be considerate for others.

To the OP:

Just assume the worst in people and prepare for it and you will fine. Don't expect people to be as respectful as you may be.

I would like to motion that the screenshot threat should be deleted with no further shots being posted at the risk of spoiling things for anyone who has not played these games.
Further more games that I have not played shall not be discussed in threads not pertaining to the game of topic.
I further motion I should be banned from clicking on threads talking about games I have not played or finished.
Failure to comply with this policy will result in immediate banning of myself and others.
