Hi all,

I'd just like to post a quick note (if I may) to let folks know that elrepo.org have kABI-tracking kmod packages available for the latest NVIDIA drivers for RHEL5 and clones.

What is a kABI-tracking kmod package? Well, it's the kernel module (nvidia.ko) packaged into a format that can track the kernel ABI, and as long an RHEL maintain a stable kABI then the kernel driver will work seamlessly across kernel updates. That means you no longer have to recompile the nvidia.ko kernel module for every kernel update. Xen kernels are currently not supported.

ELRepo.org currently has the 190.53 driver in their main repo and the latest 195.36.15 release in the testing repository (elrepo-testing). The latest legacy drivers (173.xx and 96.xx) are also available.

If users want to try out these driver packages (after first uninstalling any other versions), they should set up the elrepo.org repository and then:

yum --enablerepo=elrepo install kmod-nvidia

which will also install the binary X11 libs in the package nvidia-X11-drv as a dependency. Reboot and you should be good to go.

Of course now you've installed from a repository, simply running 'yum update' will keep your NVIDIA drivers updated along with everything else.

Feedback welcome,

Regards,

Phil

I'm afraid you posted in the wrong forum. This is graphics card related, so should be more appropriate in the NVIDIA forum.

Ah, perhaps a moderator would be kind enough to move it to the NVIDIA Linux forum then :)
