View Full Version : Will the day come when 20k marks on a ti4200 becomes easy?

I am not talking about some liquid nitrogen cooled ti4200 and a 3GHz p4 at 4.5GHz on 300fsb barely breaking 20k marks using tons of software tweaks as well to lower the IQ. More like all air cooled, ti4200s overclocked to perhaps 300-320 core and 600-650 on the ram. Nearly all albatrons do a minimum of 280/600 and many do 300/630. Other brands generally get to around stock ti4400 speeds. Seeing my ti4200 at 280/520 gets me just over 13k on a 2.14GHz tbred, flash foreward several years, perhaps 2005 when the prescott pentium5 at 90nm and 3.4GHz with 1mb cache is looking great on paper. also at 250fsb itll be oced to 4.25GHz and being 90nm this might even be possible on air. If people are getting the 2.8c to around 3.5GHz on 130nm, imagine 90nm. I dont see why 4+ GHz would be a problem even with the first steppings. Later steppings will have people ocing 4GHz to 5GHz. Not only that, the pentium5 could be MHz per MHz as good as the tbreds, meaning if the tbreds countinue to over 3GHz which I doubt, a 3.4GHz tbred would match a 3.4GHz pentium5. Right now the pentium4 "C" at 200fsb has gotten pretty close, a 2.8c could match a 2.4GHz tbred or an xp3200 barton at 2.2GHz which isnt bad. Would a 4GHz prescott at 5GHz and a ti4200 at 300/600 be able to break 20k marks?

Why?
I really do not see any point in it. "sorry"
Heck I hardly get 18,000 with my rig.

Exactly. It's frikin' 3dmark. Who cares?

I care :)
You sound like my wife who wonders why people do quarter mile times when everyone knows cars are for getting the shopping.
What kind of car do you have saturnotaku and how much shopping can you fit in it ? I'll pass the info on to my wife when you post a reply.
The answer to the first post is no.

If you looked at my signature you wouldn't have had to ask that question. I can fit enough groceries in my car to get me by each week. And I'll still have room to transport my laptop, Xbox and whatever.
But if you've spent any significant amount of time on these boards, you'd know darn well my stance on 3dmark. I believe this program, especially the 2001 iteration, is worthless, except to test video card overclocking stability. If I had a PIII 600/GeForce2 MX and you had a P4 3.2/Radeon 9800, yeah you're going to get a better 3dmark score. But if we were at a LAN party and I beat your *** at Counterstrike or UT that would be far more satisfying.
To use the car analogy, that would be like a stock Camaro Z28 beating up on a riced out Civic.

But you weren't saying your stance, you were trying to give an impression it was everyones stance, ie a generalisation. Your statement also tried to be seen as being "right" by using emotive language.
To be honest, if we all know your stance on 3dmark then you didn't need to say it.
The answer to the first question is still no, although cpu dependant you will still need a 4200 with higher core and mem than 300/600.

Yet on both of your rigs you fail to achieve a minimum framerate of 35fps in Morrowind at 1280x960 8xAF.

Everyone knows 1280x960 causes cataracts ;) :p

Uhm.
Yeah. It'll be easy since 3DMARK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE VIDEO CARD
Get a fast enough bus, and voila. 60,000,000 3DMarks.

Search a through the forums database over the last 2 years and you will see the post how I managed to hit that min fps and the massive ass post about how to tweak to get some darn good framerate in towns such as the 2nd one which I forgot the name.

Since I could get 15350 with my XP2400 11x200 bus with a TI4600 I sure if you have a 5Gig computer if intel working the same as a AMD T.B. clock for clock ,20,000 would be no problem. But I guess anything is possible in the future.

I dont see why you cant break 20k marks, even on a stock ti4200 at 250/500 if the cpu is fast enough. Your nature score wont change but your others will, although it wont scale very well at all. If the cpu is fast enough, its possible. However, the geforce2mx scales very, very little but a ti4200 scales far more and probably can scale to like 10GHz, especially car chase high details anyway. and yes I care because my games also get faster. If games run too slow, get a new cpu

My feeling is that the video card wil become the bottleneck even before then as it becomes fillrate limited.
It's an interesting problem though, I guess the way to test it is to see when it becomes gpu limited at 1600x1200 and then 1280x1024 and then try and work out what the value would be for 1024x768 at 250/500.
It is an interesting point in the real world, as you say, because there is always that juggling between whether to buy the latest video card or making sure the rest of the system is doing it justice. This time, with all the oo-haa over nv30 and then unclear between nv35 and 9800 Pro I decided to spend my money on a P4 and 875i and so still have a 4200/4800SE rather than the latest. I'll look at nv40 when I have saved up enough which will be 2004 anyhow.

Why would you use Ti4200 on a brand new 5Ghz Intel Pentium
Dumb question if you ask me , its same as aksing if my TNT 2 will ever break 1000 with 10Ghz :p
By the time we have 5Ghz CPU's video cards will be 5x times faster then Ti4200 :drooling:
Just ran 3D mark 2000 today and you know what i only get 12611pts compaired to my 2001 result of 12021pts, LMFAO.

NEVER!!!!..when the new Pents come out that my allow u to use it, I doubt youll find an AGP slot on ur mobo in which to plug in your Ti 4200 :D :p

dont think thatll happen for a while and if it does, agp to pci express bridge and no problem, also 13678 3D Marks in 3DMark2K1 on a 9700 pro overclocked? LOL Ill be eating that score on a ti4200 once I buy a faster one, I should break 14k easy and if I oc my cpu to 2.4GHz where your cpu happens to be, ill be in the mid to high 14k. The ti4200 should not be underestimated, I beat you in everything but nature and close in dragothic. with my new ti4200 ill eat you in everything and be close to you in nature. The good thing is you get free fsaa and af which I never use anyway
"Why would you use Ti4200 on a brand new 5Ghz Intel Pentium"
to run games at blistering fps, silly :D
"By the time we have 5Ghz CPU's video cards will be 5x times faster then Ti4200"
show me a video card thatll get 5 times the 15k my ti4200 will get, thats 75k marks dude........
my friend says somethings wrong with your rig cause you cant break 14k on an oced 9700 pro

My FX 5200 ultra gets almost 14k in 3dmark2001 so your 4200ti needs to get it's skates on as well :D

overclocked to what and did you lower the image quality? also publish the score, im guessing you have the fastest cpu cause thats like a ti500 with dx9

1. My score would be high too if my FSB was overclocked out the ying yang. My FSB is at stock speeds (133MHz). Yours is overclocked. :p
2. Whats your 3D Mark 2003 score again???....thank you :p
If you read into my sig you'll see that I have a Dell. Unfortunately for me I cannot overclock my FSB. My Radeon 9700 Pro is already CPU/FSB limited, so overclocking the GPU/Memory does very little for the score with my current setup. Now had I had a overclockable mobo, I'd eat your score and your friends score.
One more thing...turn some AA/AF at max quality and see if you score what I score in 3D Mark 2003 with 6xAA/16xqAF...:p ...son I will always score higher in 3DMark2003 with AA/AF at max then youll score with quality as the lowest settings...pWNED:p
Run 3DMark 2001 with max AA/AF at 1280x1024 and see what you get? :p
YOU WERE PWNED mulitple times in the same thread....:p

I consider it a draw:
1. you own me in 2003, especially with fsaa, but then that benchmark is a dx9 one, its not an apples comparsion. Youd probably own me in dx9 games in a few years when they come out.
2. your 256 bit bandwith helps heaps with fsaa but without fsaa I would own j00! and I dont use fsaa either
3. many games are cpu intensive so I own you in 1024x768 and below without fsaa while you own me above that, but who cares when you get 20fps at 1600x1200 while I get 60fps at 800x600 :p
4. im aiming for 14500 marks, eating you by 900 marks. Your cpu will hold you very badly. Your max fps will remain low at any res while my max fps will be low only at high res

1. Um... so yeah, his card is better.
2. Hmmmmm no. 9700 Pro beats the Ti4x00 without FSAA as well.
3. BAH. BAH, I SAY TO YOU. UTTER BAH. And if they're CPU limited, WHY DON'T YOU USE AA OR AF?!
4. Wow, you can overclock your FSB. Congratulations. You should feel special.

1. of course, I wont even argue about that, as much of a bottlebeck as his cpu may be.
2. true, but in high res and not by that much either, perhaps a third faster.
3. Id rather run 1600x1200 instead
4. he could do the same if he got a cheap kt400 and xp2100

and if I actually ran 3DMark 2k1 on my new machine, I'd probably get quite a bit higher than that.
3. Id rather run 1600x1200 instead
doesn't help with textures, and 1280x960 with 2xAA looks superior anyway. plus you get a higher refresh rate.
2. true, but in high res and not by that much either, perhaps a third faster.
do I really need to reply to this? nah, somebody will do it for me

let me share a magical piece of knowledge with you--your CPU is slower. the R9700 will not hit CPU limitations at 3.6Ghz or whatever the hell you claimed--that's utter BS. it depends entirely on the program.
seriously--what you hear from your friend who heard it from a guy on a message board who heard it from a SHADOWY FIGURE ON IRC WHO CLAIMED TO BE FROM ATI is probably complete and utter rubbish.
