Good day to All,

Just got a new computer (yesterday) with a BFG 5900 Ultra installed, Det 44.65 drivers (WinXP home, P4 3.0 @800Mhz, Hitachi 753 19" monitor).
I'm having two very strange problems:

a. If I "restart" windows, the monitor does not seem to get the "sync" signal from the 5900Ultra/mobo, and just stays dark and the system will not boot. If I shut the system down or hit the reset button, the system will boot and the monitor will "sysc".

b. If I try to use any resolutions with a refresh rate less than 100/120hz, I get an annoying screen "flicker".
The "flicker" is a bit more noticeable than a 60hz refresh rate "flicker". Example 1280x960x85hz or 1600x1200x75hz produces a headache causing flicker. I usually run my games at these resolutions. This monitor has never had problems with my other computer using either a GF4 4600 or 9700 Pro.
As I just got the computer I've not yet installed any kind of refresh rate fixing software, I'm locked at 60hz for 3D. The "flicker" is most noticable in 2D (the desktop). Prior to me noticing the problem, I had played Unreal 2 at 1600x1200x60hz for about a half an hour, and didn't notice anything was amiss. It was later that I noticed the problem in 2D (I usually run my desktop at 1024x768x120hz).

Is the 5900 bad, is this a driver or BIOS problem???

Please Help! I know I could call tech support (Alienware...no flames please), but I know that you guys are much more knowledgeable.

Thanks for any suggestions!!

Kevin

I have the same mobo with P4 2.8C and 1 GB DDR 3500 DDR ram, same sound card, Plextor Premium 52x32x52 CD-RW, and Viewsonic 810-5 21" monitor. I have a PNY 5900 Ultra and I never seen any issues with 2d except in low-res 2D menu screens in games. I see a bit of flickering lines in the very top of the menus and it is random. Never have an issue with 2D desktop. I have a feeling there will be some sort of bios flash coming or a bunch of video cards flying back to AIB partners to address this issue. It doesn't bother me much, but a $500 video card should not do this.

First, I'd like to thank those that replied to my cry for help.
Second, I feel very stupid.... The flickering problem was being caused by my UPS....You see, as the computer had just arrived I wanted to make sure everything was hunky-dory with the system before adding it to my home network, replacing my old computer. I had set it up on the kitchen table and apparently the UPS was just a little too close to the back of the monitor.
What made me think of the UPS was the fact that if the refresh was 60hz or 120hz (a harmonic of 60) everything was kocher.
The UPS as an Ac source must put out an inductive field at 60 hz.
...DUH.
I guess ya live and ya learn....

Thanks again to all!

Kevin
