Yup I'm getting an fx5200, I know some of you are going to say that some gf3's and gf4's are beating 5200 but hey I wanna get those dx9 features... and I don't really care about aliasing anyway...

SO I wanna know if any of you have heard something about the Forsa gf fx5200 (ultra) by Geniman, is it good or bad.... got any link ?

And if the Asus v9250 magik ( gf fx 5200 ) is an ultra one or not...

Finally would you recommend me the asus or the forsa ?

I know you don't care but a TI4600 or TI4800 would be alot faster than a FX5200 because the 5200 just don't have enough horse power, but if you are going to get one I would go with the Asus.

I have the asus fx5200 (I think, but am not sure that it's the 9250, I'll check the model number and the clocks at home).

I like the card. It's silent (no fan), DX9 capable, and the coolest thing is that the 2D output at 1600x1200x32@85 Hz is better than that of my ATI 9700 Pro. Both are hooked up to a Mitsu diamond pro 2060u which has 2 vga inputs, so I can compare easily just by hitting a button. At 75 Hz both outputs look the same. Go figure.

Be warned that it is slow at DX9/ARB shaders. On the order of 1/10th the speed of the 9700. I like it for programming since it allows me to test my stuff on NV hardware, but it may not be good for a user who wants interactivity with those shaders. It plays older games like Quake III just fine at reasonable settings.

Great !

But I wanna play doom3 with it ( low details of course ) well I hope it could ... :(...

anyway... Is it the 5200 ultra or non-ultra ?

and does anyone know about that forsa card ?

If you want the non-ultra 5200, be aware that it comes in two flavors...
one w/ a 64bitDDR bus and one w/ a 128bitDDR bus.

The one w/ the 64bit bus is a peice of crap. Make sure you get the one w/ the 128bit bus

I know you want DX9 features, but a $79 Ti4200 would be miles faster in any game, and will play "DX9" games much better than an FX5200.....

Good luck, and enjoy whatever you get:)

it seems now that shoping for a 5200 has became even harder... ti4200 aren't supposed to be 250 mhz just like the non-ultra 5200 ? how could it possibly be better then ?

Anyway all I wanna know is are the forsa and asus v9250 magik... ultra version of the 5200 ???

Thanks...

Have you read any reviews of the NON-Ultra FX5200?

The Ultra is a much better card, about as good as a Ti4200, but a bit more expensive.

Here is an FX5200 review against the MX420 (Which is much slower than a Ti4200)

I hope this doesn't complicate things..just thought you might want to know....

Good luck in your search...

My card is the v9520 magic. I think the default clock speeds are 250/300 (no, it's not an ultra). Mine overclocks to 300/370.

You didn't say before that you wanted the card to play DoomIII. Although I like my 5200 for what it is, it is NOT going to play that game at a reasonable rate. It would be hard to put together a budget system that would. If that is your goal, at least wait until it comes out...things will be cheaper then.

well maybe you will get to play doom 3 with it...

With all the hubbub floating around the net lately about what would and what wouldn't run DOOM³, we decided to bring an end to the system requirement confusion and contact the main man, John Carmack, himself. Here is the official word on the minimum system configuration you'll need to run Doom³.

1GHz CPU
256MB RAM
GF1 or Radeon 7xxx series card

Don't expect to run it fabulous with that system setup , but everything will be playable at least.

and to the guy that wants to get an ultra.. http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=323232

ultra is 325/650 which you could clock higher

is it an ultra

The card reviewed in the Digital Daily link is clocked much lower(250/150(300) than a standard FX5200(250/200(400).

The FX5200 that I have definately outperforms my friend's MX440 despite not having the z-buffer compression to improve bandwidth like the MX440 does.

Make sure to get cards with 8 memory chips, 4 memory chips ones are always 64bit and will definately be much slower than MX440.

Ok thx all...
but let's make this clear YEAH I want an Ultra... !

Its is about what I'm asking since the begining..

So is the asus v9520 an Ultra one ?

i dont believe so.. does it have to be from asus? as i posted in the link before that a chaintech 5200 ultra for 145 or something free 2nd day ship, i chekced the asus website they dont even give you clock speeds... theres this guy i know he has an evga 5200 ultra he oced it to 360Mhz/730Mhz from 325/650... anyway while we are in this topic.. my parents have a p3 500, it has a 16mb rage 128, my step dad plays ut2003 can you guys suggest a card for that system.. maybe a gf 3 or something?

emuleiji

yup to play ut its fine... I played it on a tnt2... so ! :D

but hey does the asus has an 128 bit memory bus then... it seems it is a non-ultra... and it has 2 memory chip !

so is it a 128 bit memory bus ?

listen dude im trying to help you out with the asus card, i really dont think its an ultra, ive been looking thru the specs online and theyr non ultra speeds.. some of them dont even say the speeds.. may i recommend the 5200 ultras form evga, pny, chantech, and leadtek

ja18
07-19-03, 01:37 PM
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=EVGA+GeForce+FX5200.. the last one on the page, is the evga 5200 ultra for 135 which is very good considering it costs about 180.. the evga 5200 ultra can be overclocked well

emuleiji
07-19-03, 01:38 PM
Yup now I can confirm it is not an ultra.... but I want to know is it an 128 or 64 bit memory bus

And well... here in my dammn little city I don't have any good shop that can offer me something else than asus... or yep those brand like leadteck... but not in the fx5200 series ... so I gotta stick with it

128 or 64 bit ????????

ja18
07-19-03, 02:46 PM
i think it might be 64 bit isnt there a best buy around there?.. i was checking out that forsa, it doesnt seem to have a heatsink on the gpu itself.. kinda strange to me.. so id say try out the forsa, see how it works for u, if not then return it then get something better.

umm 25fps in nature dont sound right, I get 19fps back when I had a 64 bit fx5200 with 64mb ram, a 128 bit should get at least 35fps in nature since nature is bandwith hungry. The ti200 stock gets 38fps in nature so a 128 bit fx5200 NON ultra is not THAT bad about 90% the speed of a ti200. the fx5200u would be like a ti500 :)

as for what he gets, good luck as long as it arent 64 bit
