If you buy it from D2D (http://www.direct2drive.com/promos/split-second/) you'll be entered to win a Playseats Evolution gaming chair, complete with Logitech G27 wheel.

I'll wait for a sale. From gamespots review, sounds like a sloppy console port.

Performance doesn't seem to be good on the PC at higher settings and the game is locked at 30 fps.

It looks better in motion.

I'm slightly disappointed by Split/Second PC graphically. Very High butchers the framerate on my Core i7 860/5870 at 1900x1200, which is unfortunate because it looks a lot better on Very High. My guess is that Very High cranks up the AA and filtering. On Very High I've seen it get as low as 17fps in some intense scenes (considering the whole point of the game is creating intense scenes).

I'm playing on High because the framerate is a solid 30. The framerate seems to be capped at 30 regardless.

On the plus side, there is V-Sync on/off in the options, but few other adjustments otherwise.

I'm looking around for config files to tweak but I'm not seeing anything promising.

The screenshots aren't loading for me, could someone be kind enough to reupload them using imageshack preferably.

I bought it on Direct2Drive and it runs well in very high on my gtx 480/q6600. I didn't measure framerate, but I didn't notice any major slowdown.

Would have preferred to buy it on Steam, but apparently its a Direct2Drive exclusive.

Digital exclusive, maybe... it has a retail version.

I like the look of this and Blur both, but I don't need more car games. I barely play the ones I get.

Guess it was just one person who is having problems with the frame rates at very high, more people are reporting a rock solid 30 fps, still need more confirmation from people with a system similar to mine (E6600 and 4870) before I decide to get the PC version, else might have to go with the 360 version, the demo ran really well and looked great.

I bought it and played it for 2 hours ( when i took an RDR break) its pretty cool. Diffrent in a good way. Very arcade and very fun. Ill play it more after I finish RDR.

Very pretty and I had no issues with performance at all. I Didnt look at FPS but felt very smooth.

Digital Foundry: How does PC factor in from a development standpoint?

David Jefferies: We work with an external studio on the PC port who takes the console versions as a starting point. This allows us to concentrate on the 360 and PS3 safe in the knowledge that it's in good hands.

Blur is on steam, but not Split Second.

both games are arcade racers, I would get one, but probably not both.

Argh...30fps locks suck.

you must hate movies then, since they run at 23.976fps

Completely different medium and expectations (this tired argument has been debunked so many times) - but yes, even on film jittery panning is quite evident.

If its locked at 30 I couldnt tell. The game plays fast, things blow up quick. Very smooth frames.

How about you try it first before complaining? I couldn't even tell and I usually notice fps under 30 in most games.

Same thing every time a game is fps locked, no one even tries it or believes people actually playing the game that it's unnoticeable... they just complain.

The Force Unleashed for instance... the cap is fine, it feels perfectly smooth, but oh no it's a horribly PC port because of it no matter what anyone says.

I'm one of those people that a 30 FPS cap drives me nuts. It gives me a headache to play it. The force unleashed - uncapped edition would've been great... but we get a lazy 30 FPS port...like our PCs aren't 100 times more powerful than the R_Rod box. ugh.

How can 30fps give you a headache? It is the industry standard, it is what the vast majority are playing the game at. I have heard that too HIGH a framerate can make someone nauseous, but I have never heard of 30fps doing it.

Force Unleashed played silky smooth, never drops from 30fps for me even with AA applied and it does not feel slow or sluggish at all. You're missing out.
