View Full Version : BitBoys card...
Check it out on the front-page....the company finally produces a card and now they have nobody to make it for them.....

Based on those specs I read on the front page, it doesn't sound like the card will be a whole lot better than a Radeon 9000 or other lower-end graphics chip. It doesn't even look like it would use DDR memory, I mean, how could you even think of producing such a card?
I'm sure NV and ATI are quaking in their boots.

I'd still be interested to see what sort of performance you'd get from this card, and I like to see their AA implementation at work
That will scare ATI and Nvidia
Also please note that last night the Aliens told me they had Elvis, and he'll be putting out another album soon ;)
In reality I hope they finally do release a kick-ass video card, because more competition is better for us :D
If I remember right, BitBoys developed an architecture which did not rely upon memory technology ( ie: DDR, etc... )
Instead, they focused on making the architecture super-efficient and came up with some "magic method" of getting insane bandwidth...
Until we see any legitimate products though, one can only assume the worst...
:p
Bitboyz... I don't care anymore. Its like Michael Jackson disclosing his supposed illegitimate children, who cares?
I don't get this.
Why announce that they won't bring it to the public at all?
Finnish people are strange, voi peikkoset!

From what little insides sources I have that card was suppose to be launched very early this year to compete with the GF3/8500. It did not make it. Also in order to keep $$ coming in from somewhere they needed to prove to the world that they did actually make something....so this was another pice of thier proof... Good/Bad who knows...

Yeah, didn't they show pics of a card some number of years ago too? Where was it at? VaporWare.
Well what a shock. Geez and it was going to come with a copy of Duke Nukem Forever.

Few points:
1. Low-end GFX-chips don't have EDRAM on 1024bit memory-bus.
2. The chips doesn't really need DDR-RAM as badly as Radeon and GF-series does, since the EDRAM does the heavy lifting. Like I said, the EDRAM in on 1024bit memory-bus and it provides plenty of memory-bandwidth.
But I'm sure that this thread too will degenerate in to flame-fest so I wonder why I even bother....

It doesn't really matter what bus the E-DRAM is/was on, since Infineon is no longer fab'ing embedded chips, does it?
The more important issue, and imo the one everyone keeps bringing to light in a comical manner, is that Bitboys, while talented at design (um, I guess, since we've never actually seen a final product working to know it's really all that and a bag of chips..) must be a bit inept in the management / business area. Nobody has luck so bad that so many revisions of hardware keep getting killed due to their business partnerships failing this many times without that being true.
Maybe they should just give up their own company and go to work for nVidia or ATI, so they can at least see some of their tech get to market, even if it has to be in non-Bitboys branded products. :p

1024bit. Trust me on this one.

Among the best in business when it comes to 3D? You bet.

Extremely bad luck? Yes. Limited resources? Yes. Inept management? I dunno. They have ran in to three separate obstacles in their career, two were out of their control:
1. Pyramid3D. Killed when TriTech went bankrupt
2. Killing Glaze3D. That was their decision and their decision alone.
3. Infineon. BB can't help it if Infineon decides to kill their production-line. I don't think BB alone is big enough customer to make it cost-effective to keep production-line going.
But I hope after these last few years something works out and they get the company off the ground :)
In my book they certainly get an "A" for effort! Besides, I think "Bit Boys" is a cool name for a company.
I'm also sure DNF will come out, as I believe 3D Realms is/has been porting to the Unreal2 Engine. I think the basic DNF game is done, although I have only hope to go on and no proof.
Maybe the best things do take the most time. We will see.

I still don't agree with you Nemesis77 (about the inept part..), but I'm impressed with your reasonable reply just the same.
And I do agree that I'd like to see their part hit the market successfully, because more competition is always best for us Joe Consumers' bank balances. It's just that with each successive failure-to-market for their products, the criticisms and jokes seem more valid. It's to the point now that I seriously doubt I'll ever see a production BB product on the market. They could prove me wrong and actually get something out (I was almost to this point with Matrox thanks to the long delay after G400, and they finally got a better performing part out).

The BitBoys always have some kind of excuse... Its always entertainment to hear what new excuse they have come up with.

Infineon IS closing their EDRAM-business! They (Infineon) announced that about a year ago. That is NOT something BB just made up as an excuse.
It would be nice for them to provide the public with some information regarding the performance of their engineering samples.....A few benchmark results would get a ton of attention ( especially if they were as impressive as they claim )

it can't be called a scam as there is no product to lull the populace into buying. unless you think they're trying to scam investors ;)
It always was some excuse or another with the Vapourware™ masters.
As for Pyramid3D, according to Brain Hook who actually tested one, it sucked big time.
Will Bitboys fanboys eat crow? Nah. They have enjoyed sniffing the vapors for too long to do otherwise. Why stop now? No doubt they have a long list of excuses why its not Bitboys fault for coming out with a card. http://sbp777.homestead.com/files/dodgy3.gif In the long run, whatever the circumstances, it doesn't mean squat cause now everyone knows they won't ever be a Bitboys videocard out.
Looks like the deep pocketed investors finally got wise. The dream is dead Bitboys fanboys. Smell the vapour before it dissipates.
