View Full Version : Summertime heat...how do you deal with it?

What is your average temp on your rig? Those who are not water cooling, what are you doing to keep your case/cpu/gpu not overheat?

Hmmmm......Room temps with AC on 75 degrees Florida heat, usually my I7-930 runs 40,38,37,36 at idle, with full load say during a good multi session of BFBC2 my temps run about 72 degrees using H50 for the CPU.

I don’t do anything different since its usually pretty warm here GPU is a work in progress right now I have a spot cooler blowing cool air into this beast and may investigate the Coolit Omni ALC when its released since I don’t want the maintenance of water cooling.

Its about 78F in my room right now (probably less on the floor where my PC is) and its only running a few degrees hotter than normal.

My GTX 470 is idling at 48C, my CPU cores are at 41C-45C.

I pour ice water into my computer.

This place I moved into November of last year gets HOT. I have no AC at the moment. It was 88 in here. Had to shut off desk PC/monitors & reroute audio to come out of tv (hmdi audio) instead of receiver so I could make less heat. It's down to 84.5 now, but it's making me have to wonder sometimes when I have problems benchmarking.

I sit in my chair nekkid while I .... oh wait how do I keep the machine cool.... :o

I'm getting in the 20's idle still on my cpu according to all the software I've run (still gotta see what everest says) , but I'll most definitely be clocking the 470 down to 700mhz. It's in the 80's and humid as hell here right now. Hating it...

I run my airconditioner in my room, where I'm at in front of my computers, 82 Degrees outside 68 degrees in my room.:D

:bleh: hmm..lots of good data for the OP here.

Ambient was 90f in my office yesterday. GPU idled at 47-53c, fan on auto, cpu idled at 37c or so, didn't check load temps.

I usually use AC, just haven't turned it on yet.

EDIT: normal temps at 70f ambient are approx 7c lower across the board. These temps are also about 3-5c lower with the CM HAF than the were with the Antec I had.

All cores @ 31c. Big case & lots of low turning 120mm fans. Change the air in you case as much as possible.

We keep the AC at 75F and my cpu still idles at 30-32F, vid card is idling at 40F

Our AC is set at 72, but it feels like its about 74-75 indoors.

5870 is idling between 51-54c depending on temperature outside.

To combat higher load temperatures, I put a higher speed fan on my TRUE120 and moved the Antec fan to the back of the case and set it on medium speed. That dropped my idle from roughly 37c to 33c. I also discovered a neat little bit of information when trying to figure out the best fan configuration

I use the top 200mm fan as my main exhaust fan in my case (the TRUE is facing up with the fan pushing air from under it) Therefore, I have a little playing room as to how I want my back fan set. I tried it set so it was blowing into the case. This resulted in the idle temp lowering by about 1-2c, which was great. However, when I begin playing games, the heat given off by my PSU and video card end up being recirculated into the case, which means that at load, my temperatures are higher. Ultimately, I ended up keeping the back fan as an exhaust.

Next on my list of things to do is swap the fans in the front of the case so that they're blowing out of the case as well. I wonder if that will help temps at all... I guess I'll find out.

BTW, I'm using CPUID Hardware Monitor to watch all of the temps on my system.

Basement + Canada = ftw

the computer room is the hottest room in the house, with AC set to 72, unfortunetly the AC sensor is downstairs, so the computer room is aways few degrees hotter, ranging about 75-77

and computer interior is only about 2-3 degrees warmer then in winter.
