OK, my original intent was not to start a flame war, but to find out what ATi is up too. nVidia inflated benchies, and even alters textures and Graphics in UT 2K3. But, what does ATi do to defent their title? I want to know of anything cheap/bad wraps nVidia users see against ATi.
Sorry for any problems this has caused you, but I want to find out.

^ wow, he is actively trying to recruit nvidiots from various sources such as irc to try to get a flamefest going. pretty lame really.
btw, yes i love my first ati (9800pro)
Nope...I just want the info I need. Figured the Regulars in IRC could pop in and post their views

I will when I get the info...If there is none to be had, Consider me gone...
Ounce again, sorry for the "Flame War", as it was not my intent

I like ATi's desicsion for packaging the drivers and control panel into one. Not letting M$ push them around is a good sign.

OH GOD THE FLAMEAGE.
I like ATI if they can give me what I want. And generally, they can (except for Linux support... and I will continue to shake my fist until they have it), at least in the high-end. Mid-end, okay, you have to OC the 9600 Pro to make it pretty good, but meh. Low-end, hells no.

Truth is ASDF there isn't much what to pick on ATI , you can grab straws here but thats it, nothing vital ATI did to compromise reputation they getting better by the day, compared to how much Nvidia messed up ;)

Truth.
The biggest difference right now between the two companies for me right now is that ATi is doing everything right and nVidia is doing everything wrong.
Seriously. ATi is working with the community and trying to get consumers the features/fixes they want as soon as possible. They're out on the boards, they have a feedback site on their web, they have a beta driver program, and they just seem to be trying harder lately.
nVidia on the other hand is trying to re-write reality by using a few sites as their mouthpieces and weathering out the storm. (Not to mention all the cheats....yeah, I said "cheats" nVidia; sue my arse! :p )

Heh was trying to find some info for this flame war wanna be , but ended up with INTERESTING STUFF
DEVELOPERS AT the Meltdown Microsoft DirectX conference heard Nvidia make an interesting comment about its drivers.
One of the developers using FX 5900 hardware for an upcoming title tested the new shaders 2.0 and made a comment that he'd had problems with them.
Apparently, some shaders 2.0 simply do not work making Nvidia's claim that this card is DirectX 9 hardware puzzling, as Pixel Shader 2.0 is one of the essences of DX 9.
Subsequently, Nvidia staff at the conference agreed the shaders are not feeling very well, and that the recent drivers are quite buggy. But hey! They run Quake, UT and 3Dmark just fine.
We are sure that this carelessly honest Nvidia boy will be decapitated for this statement but we are sure that this will brought much more attention to making things work in future revisions.
As you might expect, there are not many ways to test these shaders as DirectX 9 games are still far away in the future. Ironically, the same shaders run just fine in ATI Radeon 9800 class hardware.

Already a thread about this in the NV card forum. Besides, consider the source.

I've tried to tolerate you, but you are nothing more than an idiot and a jackass. It's my money and I choose to spend it how I care to. But perhaps this is a concept too elevated for you to understand.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I fear for your family, your co-workers and anyone you've ever come into contact with in person.
lol..i dont think he was bashing you, just questioning why you did it. Hell I must admit I was even stumped by it and was curious for your reasons.

I think I can dig why he did, same reason I'd like to get me hands on a 5900 Ultra to check out.
It's fun to play with a new toy and explore what it can do, and it's a trip to bounce between the two top cards to compare them yourself. :)

IMHO, ATi currently have superior hardware and most of nVidia's problems stem from the fact that they have not been able to keep up in that respect. If they did then there would be no need for all the hacks and constant PR craptalk.
Another thing ATi have done is improved the quality of their drivers by an incredible amount in the last couple of years and in doing so have removed the main bugbear of their users. Don't underestimate the move from an AIB-based to to chip-only manufacturing model as well.
MuFu.

ATI started packaging everything since the 3.5 OpenGL hotfixes (I think)... since the Cat 3.6s.. they have packaged everything officially...
About that Inquirer article... you have to take some of what they say for a grain of salt sometimes... though if it were true.. it's pretty silly of NVidia to admit they screwed up this time around...
If you look at the Beyond3D contest.. it's a hidden "agenda" to see if we apply a real world test to both hardware testing PS/VS 2.0 compliance and performance...

Naw... that's just your imagination :P
Although ATI will be involved with the contest.. I'd doubt NVidia would want to participate in such a contest (especially if it casts even more doubt on their hardware).. if NVidia had access to the contest.. they would want to select VS/PS 1.1 code so they would know it will run just fine... lol
Edit: They could "optimize" for that code too :)
I'm glad they are giving Nvidia competition and keeping them on their toes, but I wouldn't buy an ATI card due to poor stereographic driver support (3d glasses) and in the past I have found ATI drivers to be buggy with various games.

They had bad drivers in the 8500 days and before. Their new Cat drivers are stable and are rock solid with any game I put in it. ATI has come a long ways, especially in their driver dept.. Their Drivers are now better than Nvidias, just because they are stable, play all games, and the ATI drivers have a lot more options for tweaking than Nvidias drivers do.

I only recently went Ati. But through every video card I've ever owned, I've had rock solid, great drivers. I think of the companies very samiliarly now. They both make amazing products and both have great software to pair with the products.

The original R400 was scrapped. R420 is what will be released instead.
