OK, here is the deal. I am new, and I am going to start this thread, Flame all you want, but here it is. In Rage 3D, there are rumours of how much nVidia "Sucks" and about the Benchie scam and such. What I want from you, is your Views on ATI (Pros, Cons, Cheats ATI uses to up scores, etc...(or even a Rant you have)) HAVE AT IT, AND KEEP IT CLEAN!

I got no real beefs with the post Radeon 9700 ATI. I was always an NVIDIA guy until I got my 9500 (which was modded to near 9700 Pro speeds). Then I had a 9800 Pro, which I'm selling right now as I have an FX5900 in my machine. There's nothing wrong with the 9800, I just want to try the NV35.

I like trying out all different kinds of hardware from both companies now. ATI's drivers are up to par for the most part and all their FSAA modes are beyond reproach for quality and performance. I don't like that you have to download the drivers and control panel separately, however in the latest release they do offer the two combined as one file (18 mb so I don't wanna hear anyone ***** at the size of NVIDIA's drivers). If you plan to use Linux I would say stay away from ATI for now. They did release a driver but NVIDIA still has the better support.

Both companies used techniques to inflate their benchmark scores. However I personally don't care because I hate synthetic benches. I only care about performance in games I can play. And if there are "optimizations" in place to increase performance without a noticable degredation in image quality I'm all for it.

But if you're in the market and are considering an R3xx based product don't let any of us stop you. They're great cards. I was an NVIDIA fanboy and even moreso becuase I had a Radeon 8500 and hated it. But I'm past that now. I'm sick of the fanboy bull****. Just buy the best card that suits your needs and budget. Read the reviews and make your decision. Just make sure that if the card doesn't work right/perform to your expectations that you have the ability to return it and that means reading all the fine print.

I am pissed @ ATI.

I am more pissed that my wife wouldn't listen to me a few months ago, before their stock tripled in price. Damn you ATI!:rw:

Bit I love my R9500--->R9700 :luv:

[/size].

The problem is that nVidia is tampering with image quality in actual games now such as UT2003. Don't know if you've heard but they do not let you enable trilinear filtering when you turn on "quality" mode in their drivers in essence fooling the customer.

Honestly the desicion you have made make no sense what so ever. You are seriously going to regret this decision when HL2 comes out. The HQ shaders run more than 5x faster on the R350 than the Nv35. Thats just one example. Then the AA and AF issues. With the closeness of the basic speed of the Two.. WTF are you thinking selling the 9800pro and keeping the 5900???

AS for the Control panel. The reason it is seperate is SOLEY becuase they have a Built in Refresh force feature that if packaged WITH the driver would render it no WHQL certifiable. There are a couple other features in their drivers that are a benefit to the user that would not pass muster if packaged with the driver.

Dude....hasn't ATI been packaging the driver, control panel, and AIW something or other together since Catalyst3.5? Someone said that. They are doing it for Catalyst3.6, that is how I downloaded the new driver and control panel(in the package).

Why they didn't offer the package before and how they can do so now is beyond me.

Nice try at a flamebait post but its not going to work here.

For me when it came to buying a new card, Nvidia used to be default. That was since the TNT days. Well no longer. ATI has stepped up to the plate and delivered. Its drivers when compared to the Radeon days are better. Frankly I can't think of a good reason not to go ATI. Its not that the FX line is bad, but there is no compelling reason to go with it. IT doesn't offer anything ATi don't have. And its not as good on the price-performance scale imo.

OK, I wrote in the thread you posted about your 9600 and complimented you on your purchase and this is what you come back with. I've tried to tolerate you, but you are nothing more than an idiot and a jackass. It's my money and I choose to spend it how I care to. But perhaps this is a concept too elevated for you to understand.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I fear for your family, your co-workers and anyone you've ever come into contact with in person.

Umm, no. They haven't been packaging anythng together.

A third party may have packaged them together, but not ATI....

Omega packages them together. But the Cat 3.6 is the first set I've seen where you can download both striaght from ATI. ATI calls it a "Software bundle for high speed connections."

Interesting.....nVidia has been packaging their CP with their WHQL drivers since day one and a built in refresh feature has been in ever since the 41.XX drivers if I am not mistaken. If a refresh rate feature renders drivers "non-WHQL", then how did nVidia get certified for theirs?

Huh, didn't see it @ ATI's main driver download portion of their webpage, but I don't doubt they may have packaged them together.......

My question:

Does anyone really care?

tell you the truth... going by all the tests that have been conducted showing the flaws or unsupported features by the drivers that nvidia has released over the past few months... I dunno how they got whql'd even if they are not meeting minimum precision levels' required to be dx9 whql'd...

I have no idea how nvidia manages to get their drivers whql'd :) its an interesting question...

They didn't before because some of the controls in their control panel run contrary to DX9 spec by letting you over-ride certain options (like v-sync).

I THINK (as in, I'm guessing based on my own information and NOT based on any insider info) that they started the one package deal just because people wanted it that way. They can submit the driver to M$ for certification, and then after include it in an all-in-one package.

I really ain't sure why, but I sure like it better as an all-in-one....I HATED the seperate control panel install! :(

PLEASE don't ban him or close this thread, PLEASE!!!!!

After getting addicted to that thread at that place and not being able to post there I have been JONESING to cut loose on some mindless fanbois....can't you just let me have some fun with him for a little while?

Do you have any IDEA how hard it is to find a good mindless nVidiot to fight with anymore at anywhere but that place that I can't say anymore?!?!

I have both, a 9700pro in my main computer and a Ti4600 in my spare computer. ATI has taken over the graphics market and there is nothing Nvidia can do about it. Even their now flagship, the 5900 Ultra, gets beat in all reviews when compared to the 9800pro:
http://www.ocaddiction.com/articles/video/fx_5900ultra_vs_radeon_9800pro/
http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTAwLDE=
Here is a direct quote:"So for summing up which card is ‘best’ at image quality in UT2003 the 9800 Pro still stands as that card. The sharper texture quality with AF enabled plus its better AA quality combined gives the 9800 Pro its image quality edge in this game. Both the 9800 Pro and 5900 Ultra deliver a great overall gaming experience in UT2K3."
"And the winner is.........The FIC ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. We compared these cards in every category we could think of and in the end, we saw better performance overall from the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. Did the FX 5900 fail to impress us? No, not at all. We believe both cards are worthy of any good system but we do have to tip our hats to the excellent performance that the Radeon 9800 Pro has showed us here today. "
And here is the kicker- ATI 9800pro is cheaper than the 5900 Ultra by $100 US. The reviews speak for themselves and my Nvidia days are over. Their drivers are now rock solid with exceptional performance. Bottom line---Go with ATI
