i've got a dell dimension 4550 with geforce mx 420 graphics. i want to get a radeon 9500 pro, but i'm afraid that the 250 W PSU dell supplied me with isn't sufficient. does anyone have an idea about this? the problem with upgrading the PSU is that i've heard that dell motherboards aren't combatible with 3rd party PSUs. please, give me a clue.

1. Yes, you cannot upgrade a Dell PSU. They and the motherboards are not standard ATX PSUs.

2. The power supply should be fine. Dell PSUs have low official ratings, but they are able to supply plenty of power.

u sure?..250 W seems little bit low for 9500pro.....

r300 cards do need additional power connection....offcourse that it depends on other components he has, but still 250 W seems little bit lowish.....

Do you no the amps of the 12volt rail and the 3.3v and 5v rail,on the power supply itself.

dell powersupply's are actually about 330-350W despite the fact that they say 250w ... dont worry about it.
