Unaware that a live microphone was broadcasting their words around the Capitol, Assembly Democrats meeting behind closed doors debated prolonging California's budget crisis for political gain.

Members of the coalition of liberal Democrats talked about slowing progress on the budget as a means of increasing pressure on Republicans.

A microphone had been left on during the closed meeting Monday, and the conversation was transmitted to about 500 "squawk boxes" that enable staff members, lobbyists and reporters to listen in on legislative meetings.

Some members of the group, including Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg, said if the budget crisis were extended, it could improve chances for a ballot initiative that would make it easier for the Democrats to raise taxes by lowering the threshold for passage from two-thirds to 55 percent.

This is a point I make over and over and the left on this board say I'm all wet with it. Democrats need bad news to happen to get into power. They rely on bad news, deaths, budgets and scandls to happen so they can stay in power or seize it.

Look at the what the lieutenant governor is trying to do. It wont stand up in court. Good thing Bu is leaving soon. What basket case California is and it is completely controled by DEMOCRATS. Good job dems.

I am strictly speaking of democrat politicians, not every one who votes or may have voted democrat at any point in time. I don't even know why I bothered to respond to this.

I'm sure things like this have happened on the Republican side of the fence, too. The difference is they make sure all the mics are OFF! ;)

Huh? uhhh so all democrats are politicians? Then that would fit the point I have made several times. Politics are all the democrats live for, thus you get what happened in this thread's topic. ;) Damn the public we want power!

Does the word consolidation mean anything to you? If you vote republican you DESERVE what you get. But hey, Bush didn't screw up the econeomy right? It was someone elses fault.

No he didn't. The economic down trend started before Bush was elected. I do not blame Clinton for it either. The difference here is that California has had one party in power for a VERY long time and that party is the Democratic pary. So yes you can put the blame right on their shoulders. They wrote the budgets. They lied about the spending and they wrote the current tax laws.

Nope! I've seen it too many times and they say it too often. This is not the first time this has happend to the dems. I don't think you know our two parties like you think you do. In fact I know you don't.

The dems in a state wide crisis, I mean this is total political and finacial chaos in California. The dems decided to use the problems they created to gain political power over teh Republican. The President did the same thing in 94 or 95 when Clinton shut the goverment down to drive repiblicans into the ground over a budget issue. The line was republicans want to starve children throw the old into the streets. Government workers will not get turkey for thanks giving not pay checks blah blah. So he shut it down and blamed it on the republicans. It worked well. They got the budget they wanted.

Time and time again dems hope for bad news to happen to take advantage and gain power. I am not saying republicans are saints but there is no comparison.

All of the dems rehtoric is negative, republicans want to starve children, blow holes in the ozone, poinson the water, let the old die and punish the poor. It goes on and on. The dems in the senate were caught saying on tape that for every 10 points or so the Dow Jones Industrial drops they think they can gain a seat in the house and for every 50 points or so a seat in the senate.

Don't get me wrong I don't trust republicans either but the alternative is too scary to let go unchecked. Look at California for democratic control left unchecked. What a basket case that place is. There is a reason it is called The People's Republic of California.
