It looks like they should make the Episode 3 or just come out with a full blown new game like Half-Life 3.I hear rumors but does anyone know if they are going to do anything with the Half-Life series.Half-Life being one of my favorite games of all time I would like to see a new Full game Half-Life 3 with the new source engine.

No one knows. We have had many threads on the topic......

When people ask me what celebrity duo I'd like to see get together, I say Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance :D

Valve has its own space-time continuum, it's difficult even to speculate about their games.

I say "one day" we'll get it, it could be in two years or ten years, we'll never know.

Which is really stupid because Half-Life is still, far and away, their best IP.

Did you seriously just throw in a Pokemon reference into a HL2 thread? :headexplode:

Maybe Episode 3 = Source engine swansong and HL3 = Source engine 2?

Only thing people will get is L4D3 end of this year. L4D4 is already being worked on for 2011 end release. Till they exhaust the stupidity that is L4D they will continue to work on nothing but crap games (another example is Portal 2).

There is no HL2 EP3 or HL3 for that matter. Someone is still trying to figure out what to do with the mess of a storyline they have. Might take another 10 odd years...

Fine by me. I've played L4D and L4D2 to the moon and back and still have yet to get more than a half hour into Episode 2 after all these years.

Only thing I liked about the games was the DM aspect. IMHO, I thought the games sucked.

major fan of the series. Primarily the original and its expansions but HL2 and the episodes were awesome as well.

Really hope they're just waiting for their new engine before releasing- that'd be awesome to release EP3 on the latest version of Source, with HL3 (assuming they've changed their minds and do indeed release an HL3) on Source2. :D

Most likely yes.. If we know valve right...

One thing I loved about DM was EVERYONE made their own level. Always a new one to try out.

Valve has forgotten about gordon freeman and only cares about the L4D survivors now.

Yeah, what the heck is going on with the Half Life series anyway? You'd think that it'd take far less than 3 years to make EP3...

Acknowledging that Half-Life games tend to take a bit too long to come out, Valve came up with the neat idea of episodic content for the game, releasing HL2: Episode 1 two years after the original HL2 in 2006, and in 2007, HL2: Episode 2.

The idea behind this concept was to deliver the title into smaller bits, like episodes of a TV series, letting gamers have quicker access to it. Instead of sitting a few years in production, working on the finishing touches, developers could release games sooner, at a lesser price, while being able to take advantage of technological advances between episodes.

The downside would be that these games, as episodes and not as full-length products, would be shorter, but Valve also managed to overcome this by making the HL2 episodes deep, immersive experiences. But as the HL2 Episode saga was coming to an end, with only the final Episode 3 left to be released, something went wrong in the grand scheme of things. With Episode 3 still unreleased, and Episode 2 launched almost two and a half years ago, the entire "episodic" concept Valve came up with is simply not working anymore.

What's even worse is that it looks like not only will there be no Episode 3 this year either, but that there are chances that there won't be an Episode 3 at all. According to Game Informer, Valve doesn't have the final HL2 episode in plans for 2010, and it's even pondering if it should be released at all.

The good news here is that it's not thinking of leaving us high-and-dry with the story, just that it's thinking of entirely cutting the "episode" and "2" part from the previous installment in the franchise and going ahead straight to Half-Life 3. Which would be the best thing to do, since three years or more between releases an episodic content does not make.

Never read that before- and I like it! Gives me hope, actually.

That they're ditching EP3 and working on a full-fledged HL3. Don't care now if I have to wait 3 more years, just knowing it's likely gonna' be a full-fledged title is awesome! I'm hoping for like 12 hours of gameplay. That'd be epic! :D

Valve is working on a remake of Defense of the Ancients (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/06/duke-nukem-voice-actor-recorded-for-valves-defense-of-the-anci/).

So yea no HL2 ep3 news. Seriously f*&k you valve, you can make two zombie shooters, have time to release a free mini game, get CSS updated, tons of free TF2 content, but can't get ep3 out the door.

Yea I am not really mad, I just wish they would finish the series.
