Passing the million mark made SC2 "the best-selling PC game of 2010 within its first 24 hours of availability," says Blizzard. Going on to sell over 1.5 million units total in the first 48 hours apparently broke "the record for fastest-selling strategy game of all time."

"StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is officially GameStop's fastest-selling PC game since Blizzard launched World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King in 2008," the retailer's senior VP of merchandising, Bob McKenzie, added in the announcement.

I stopped by my Gamestop today during lunch (it's in a mall).

I asked the dude if they had any leftover SC2 posters. He handed one over and put a rubberband around it for me. Sweet!

Doesn't surprise me at all.

Indeed.

I bet that Diablo III will be the fastest selling action-RPG of all time as well, and probably the best selling title of the year it will come out in (my bet is for summer 2012). Way to go Blizzard (in a positive way).

PC gaming is dead.

Blizzard != PC gaming.

PC isn't dead, but using Blizzard games to prove that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, considering they dwarf the sales of the average PC game.

It tells that Blizzard knows how to make proper PC games.

The strongest selling point for Blizzard has always been the fact that they listen to the community and give feedback and work with the community to extend the life of the game.

The engine it self is very flexible from ultra low end PC's to all the way to the high end PC's.

I'm not buying it..

Mainly becuause of my anti WoW ideology, and my support for good MMO's.. WoW is not one of them.

Diablo III will be hard to resist though. :)

I'd rather give CCP my money for an EVE expansion or World of Darkness, and Bioware.

You play EVE and say WoW is a bad MMO? That is just ridiculous. EVE is a tool for OCD people to stare at numbers all day long, not a game. For those looking for an actual entertaining experience with a variety of gameplay options, WoW is a vastly superior MMO to ANYTHING else out there. And I say that with full confidence having played every supposed "WoW-killer" to be released since November 2004, all of which were horribly boring and are all almost dead or free to play. What drives your "anti-WoW" ideology exactly? I never really understand that mindset. Popular = BAD seems to be the sentiment. Do you take pride in telling all your friends what inaccessible and obscure bands you like to listen to?

And how Starcraft 2 has anything to do with an MMO is beyond me.

stop making it sound like every other game is worthless.

How did he say that exactly? It's a fact that Blizzard has higher standards than most game studios, and their success is a result of that. That doesn't mean there aren't a lot of great developers out there.

SC2 is GOTY for me. I bet it wins it.

I am not sure SCII would win GOTY because it is an RTS. But I would expect to take the RTS GOTY though. However, if it does take GOTY in general, I wouldn't be surprised.

Not really. Crysis never won any Game of the Years I know. It's been Deus Ex, Call of Duties, Battlefields, Wolf Quests, Mass Effects.

SC2, definite GOTY Candidate. It had an ungodly amount of hype and it delivered.

Ok where do i start with this..

*Firstly - WoW looks like an asscake, the gfx look like my 2 year old daughter drew them. I could make better gfx with some blocks of cheese from the kitchen fridge.
*Secondly Blizzard tried to steal the IP of Gamesworkshop's popular Warhammer series.
*Third - It's featurelist is a rehashed mess of stolen ideas from every other MMO, there is nothing innovative about WoW.
*Fourth - The community that plays wow is a bunch of babbling ADD preteens who wouldn't know a good MMO if it smacked them upside the head.
*Fifth - EQ was and always will be leagues ahead of any blizzard MMO.
*Sixth - I didn't say StarCraft was a MMO, maybe you misread my post, i said i refused to support the developers of said tripe MMO, and any subsequent games.
*Seventh - The amount of people playing does not make a good game, if it did Farmville would be a good game.
*Eighth - Blizzard always makes good games? lol starcraft ghost anyone?
*Lastly, yes EVE is much better than wow, wow is for kids without brains who want to be guided on rails around a themepark where it rains phat lewts

So in Closing - if your a pimply bearded ADD kid with the attention span of a gnat then yes wow is for you.

I'll go play a good game now named Bad Company 2...

SCII is very well in contention for GOTY. However, I think Mass Effect 2 is right up there as well. Both games are extremely polished, run great on modern hardware, have great stories, great gameplay, beautiful graphics, gorgeous cinematics, and a very loyal fan base. The gameplay mechanics are also spot-on in both titles. The only difference is one is a RTS, while the other is an RPFPS (I made that up. :p )

Those are my 2 GOTY guesses.

I'm not surprised at the success of SC II. I am surprised that I was able to get a copy at my local wal-mart the night AFTER it was released. I expected every last copy of the game to be long gone. Apparently, they were gone everywhere else.

SCII is definitely one of the few games that has impressed me immensely from all fronts. Blizzard is one of the few game developers left that can be considered "over achievers" in their field, and it really shows in SCII.

On a side note, has Blizzard broken a profit from this game yet?
