View Full Version : Problems with 5600? Maybe?

Well, I just got my MSI 5600 in the mail today to replace my ( often buggy ) 8500LE 64 and supprisingly it seems to be slower.

I ran 3dMark 01 and got about low 8000, on my 8500 i was getting around high to mid 8000 ( around 8600 mostly )

I got the card mostly for the VIVO extra and the fact I think I just got a bad ATi card as the 8500 was prone random weird crap. i was hopping to get a decent and noticable boost in perfomance.. but it doesn't seem to be the case..

As a side note i did get the newest drivers at nvida's site today which took forever on 36k dial up :|

Even UT 2k3 runs about the same...

maybe I was expecting to much..

Did you reformat/use DriverCleaner to get rid of the remnants of the ATI drivers?

I had planned to, it needed to be done anyway. But would it really degrade performance that much? I know when upgraded from a Ge 2 MX to the ATi card I didnt' have this much of a problem..

It can have a sizable effect on performance. I highly recommend doing it.

What kind of boost should I expect over the 8500LE ?

Honestly, I don't know... but it should be a pretty significant one. 5600 should compete well with a GF4 Ti4400 (I think, heh, can't remember right now), so it should be a nice jump over the 8500LE.

The 5600 actually should perform around the 8500-8500 LE levels. The 5600 Ultra is about on par with the Ti4200, so it's definitely for sure that the 5600 performs less than that. I think your performance is about right...the 5600 is simply a crap card.

8000pts seems bang on.
