is it really 2 or a completely different story line?

Takes place after the original but with difference characters. You guys do know that's its more Action RPG now right? I do like the narrative that they are going with this time though. Someone is telling a story and the decisions they make while telling it affect the gameplay and outcomes, not the player characters choices.

:thumbdwn: yeah, another series ****ed up because of all the lazy stupid bastards that can't figure out how to play a proper classic RPG.

if gameplay is like mass effect, i will not buy it.

Seems the combat is similar to Mass Effect but with swords and a combo system rather then a single attack button. But this might change for PC users since only the console version is talked about.

I wish it was true Magus, but I don't believe that for a second.

Why not? The battle systems and UI for the original were different from the original on the different platforms.

That, or the designers don't want it to play like a "proper classic RPG".

and the reason behind that is that idiots on consoles had trouble playing first game and started complaining.

The first game did play like crap on the consoles. I fail to see the problem as long as the gameplay is enjoyable and the story is good. Why does it have to be a "classic RPG" to be good?

Because it's a sequel and people that played the first are kinda expecting that?

Why not? The battle systems and UI for the original were different from the original on the different platforms. They can't change it this time, because the game is all about mixing action parts and the classic parts. That's what I've read in the latest interview and didn't like it one bit. They're already making it more like Mass Effect. I won't be surprised, if the third part was complete action "RPG".

can't they just make a dumbed down version for consoles?

Dragon Age was a very good RPG but changing elements of the combat system for the sequel is not a bad thing. Most of the battles, especially those towards the end, involved some very tedious gameplay, mostly spamming CC spells and wrestling with the party's AI to keep them focused on the targets you wanted. I can't imagine how people played through the game on consoles, I spent 90% of combat paused with the aerial camera view.

Unless you really enjoyed the Deep Roads areas, which was about 2-3 hours of boring repetitive tunnel crawls, I can't see how a more dynamic combat system is a bad thing. Not to mention, there's no "unspoken law" that sequels must necessarily imitate their predecessors.

I really can't understand this hatred for Mass Effect either, that is a game that never even claimed to be a "classic RPG" yet I see it berated frequently by a minority of people here complaining about its lack of RPG-like game mechanics.

Oh heavens forbid the gameplay is engaging and enjoyable!

I didn't feel the need to use it, but I think there was an option to kill the AI completely.

Making a game with hack n' slash sequences in a game, that is supposed to be a successor to Baldur's Gate just doesn't seem right.

If making the game more engaging and enjoyable means dumbing things down, then yeah, it is a bad thing. Jumping from an RPG game with shooting mechanics to a shooting game with RPG mechanics in a sequel feels like we're being cheated.

It doesn't mean the game alone is bad or anything, but if ME2 was more like Alpha Protocol in space, then I would worship it and buy it twice.

As much as anything, it's an action RPG.

Lol then please stop trolling the DA2 posts from here on out. The game was very fun yes, but the combat was tedious and slow. The closer to ME2 the speed of combat is the better IMO. And yes I'm also a fan of the "classic RPG" but I think the pausing in a modern game takes the fun out of it for me. I almost never used pause in Kotor/ME/DA it just slows the game down too much and makes it ez mode imo.

My cousin has always been a console tard... Well, he bought a PC for school (and gaming).

Anyways, he hated Dragon Age on the 360 because of the stupid interface and bad controls. I told him that I liked the game and the interface works very well on PC.

He watched me play it for a few minutes, and needless to say he likes the game now.

Its obvious that Bioware is doing this to make it easier for console players to play the game.

That definitely looks like the console version, and I can understand why they would want to go that route for simplicity/efficiency sake. As far as the PC version is concerned however, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that combat/controls on the PC version would remain fundamentally unchanged. Here it is, from the Bioware Forums (http://social.bioware.com/forum/Dragon-Age-II/Dragon-Age-II-General-Discussion/What-do-we-KNOW-so-far-Updated-20-Oct-2010-potential-spoilers-3064634-1.html):

Combat on the consoles is being streamlined to better utilize the controller interface. Combat on the PC should be largely the same. [GameInformer article]

So perhaps all the doom and gloom is for nothing? :p

The thing I don't understand is, why not just show a video from the PC version?

It mightn't be in a state they want to show, plus the console press is bigger and more excitable or they know no matter what they show the nekros out there will complain.
