OK he would "only" get around £8.4 million per season :D... well I guess he is happy with his £4.2 that he gets at the moment at Real...

This spending craze at Chelsea is spinning out of control... how could they afford that in reality?

Besides... I couldn't see Raul leaving Madrid... he's been there his whole career and will probably remain there. I don't see he needs to move... he's already at one of the best club sides in the world, anything else would be a sttep down.

Well but how could this guy be so crazy and offer 70 million for Raul  I mean, he could build a title challenging squad for that money, have the best manager in the world, and have some spare change... buying names doen't necessarily win you trophies...

OK it does, but this amount of money is just waaaay too much for one player...

Reading on the BBC they might offer 50 mil to Arsenal for Henry.. :) ... if I was Wenger I'd sell him and Viera for 50 mil each, finish that new stadium, and buy few other players + get the double next year... :afro: They would still have graet attack and good midfield without Viera and Henry... (and if they add a player or two...

Money can't buy you success... Newcastle tried this in the late 90s, and failed miserably.

On the Arsenal subject... looks like they may be forced to sell some players, as even they are short on cash and this has forced them into the rethink on the stadium plan. However... they do have a new keeper on the way, Jens Lehmann from Dortmund, dunno if he's the man to replace Seaman, but we shall see...

But I couldn't see Arsenal selling Henry... why sell one of the finest players in England, especially to one of your London rivals?

chelski is run by a billionaire.. I hardly think 70mil is gonna make him a pauper... :)

what it does do is generate more interest in his club and keep revenue coming in through that end...

as for raul.. I can't see him leaving real.... he is a god over there :)

plus weather is a hell of a lot better than in england... more sun... more strings :D

I think Chelski are just looking for ONE big signing... their other players bought are OK, but they want a star name to signal their intent to compete with Man U... although I take the point that all this talk of Raul will raise Chelski's profile, which in turn generates publicity, and causes share price of club to rise... making more money.

I don't think we're that strapped for cash, just trying to be very careful and prudent at the moment, and quite rightly so - Look at the mess clubs like Chelsea (pre-billionaire takeover) and Leeds have gotten themselves into. You can't just spend money hand over foot any more whoever you are really without it coming back to bite you later on.
