I'm building a new rig, and I'm ready to get the cpu. I'm trying to decide between these two processors, and wanted some input on which would be the best choice. The mobo I have is an ASUS P6X58D-E, if that makes a difference. What attracted me to the Xeon was the 12MB of cache on it, and 32nm architecture. I would like to overclock whichever proc I end-up getting, as this will be a gaming-rig. Any info appreciated!

here is the cpu support list for that mb. No xeon support and there won't be any since the 5000 xeon series has dual qpi and that mb only supports single qpi. If you want to go xeon, I would suggest the evga sr-2 mb with dual xeon sockets of which it supports the 5000 xeon series. btw, the 970 and 980x 6 core cpu's are 32nm and have 12mb of cache on them. and the 980x is unlocked for cpu overclocking. also, a 5000 series xeon costs more than a 980x.
The following table shows the support for CPU / Motherboard
