According to this article at www.xbitlabs.com, nVidia will be releasing a new NV36 very soon. This will be called the GeForce FX 5700 and will replace the current NV31 GeForce FX 5600 cards. These cards may well be available by early September. Also, the successor to the NV35 will be the NV38. This card may be called GeForce FX 6000 and will be available some time around October. This card will have a core clock in the 500-550MHz range and memory clocked in the 1GHz range. There will be a regular and Ultra version of the NV38. It looks like the NV35 will have a shelf life of just a little longer than NV30.

According to NV News, the NV38 will be announced in September, hence, expect mass availability of actual graphics cards in October. The NV38 will obviously have two versions: one is Ultra, another is non-Ultra.
Damn straight.

If true it's not all bad for 5800/5900 owners. It means that the drivers for the nv3x will be updated and tweaked into next year.

Yep... this will push the 5900 prices down.
I'm glad. This new card will be pretty much the same as the NV35 but with higher clocks. "much like my NV30U"

I'll get a 5900U when the prices drop. Heck with the NV38 and it's high prices. The performance will not be worth upgrading if you have a 5800U or better.

I'll probably pick up a 5900U then too ;)

I'm gonna stick with my FX5900 until games start to get choppy. NV38 is a waste for NV35 owners, but as others stated here will push FX5900 prices way down (like what the 9800pro did the the 9700pro), so if you didn't get NV35, would be a good time to buy.

LOL just when ati was getting ready to release their 420/400 radeon9900 pro, Nvidia will one up them a week after ati makes their move with the 500/1000 fx6000 ultra LO. actually thats what the fx5800u should have been. The fx6000 may be identical to the 5800 except a slightly tweaked core, some bug fixes and 256 bit bandwith. still pretty sweet, competition has heated and is the fx5700 gonna compete with the radeon9700?

Whats really funny is that the FX5800 non-ultra will probably sustain people throughout the next year, and it can be had dirt cheap now, same price as the FX5600 ultra! Too bad the damn turbine fan is so loud on the FX5800. A steal though for those who keep their case under their desk or on the floor.

Not necessarily. gf4 owners reported performance increases while gf3 owners got nothing out of the same drivers. I was one of those gf3 owners, I remember it well.

As cheap as a 5600 Ultra? I gotta see this....

Is it just me or did XBit mess up their dates? Hmm...

Too bad the damn turbine fan is so loud on the FX5800.This turns out not to be the case. Check the thread on 5800 fans right here called "5800 non-Ultra fan never seems to run loud (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15423)" (Summary: the 5800 non-ultra fan isn't coming on loud for most owners except at boot.)

FX5800 ...can be had dirt cheap now, same price as the FX5600 ultra!Care to post an URL to back that up? That's bogus according to PriceWatch.

Pricewatch 5600
$133 - GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 128MB
$148 - GeForce FX 5600 256MB
$129 - GeForce FX 5600 128MB

Pricewatch 5800 non-Ultra
$258 Asus V9900TD FX5800 (Nextcom)
$259 Asus V9900TD FX5800 (Computer Shop)
$264 Asus V9900TD FX5800 (Atacom, Inc)

Urhm... don't think that's entirely correct.

FX5700 (NV36) is meant to counter RV360

I think the RV360 will go upagainst the FX5600Ultra Flip chip.

To be fair though, there were several differences between the GF3 and GF4. The difference between a 5900 and the NV38 are limited, at best. Clock speeds only, at worst. So anything that improves performance on an NV38 is going to improve it for NV35, and possibly NV30.

i think same thing , BTW FX5600 FC is not 133$ ...
the finial price(street price after hiting mass production) for the FC version would be 180-195$ ...

therefore you can expect 225-240 for the FX5700V and 265-290$ fot the FX5700U.

those fx5700 prices seem high, does nvidia think itll match radeon9700 pro which can be had for like $250-280 now?

nv's cards are always priced higher due to a little higher performance.
(however it's not always true sometimes they screw things up just like with nv30 :( ) therefore i tend to believe that final NV36V and NV36U would be +5-10% faster then their competitors
(ATI's camp).

lets just wait a little more :D

huh?

They are usually priced higher because the chips/boards/memory/etc usually cost more than ATI's, regardless of performance.

I think they are just priced higher because like Intel vs AMD, NVIDIA can charge higher prices because they are the market leader and are more popular. If anything, a company that makes more money like NVIDIA can absorb more cost than a company like ATI.

You know... It sure would be nice if there were at least a couple other contenders to Gab about in all this to....

I mean, Endlessly Arguing, debating, jabbing each other and all that over ATi V.s Nvidia is fun and all. *BUT* as close as the Two are getting now, performance, features, drivers, issues... It almost makes the debates a little pointless....

It would be nice if there were 4 really strong competitors that each really pushed forward in some aspect. Or each really offered a compelling reason on why to use that one over the others.

I dont know.. Perhaps PowerVR will really deliver something impressive with the Series 5 later this year. At least that would be something.

Oh you mean almost 2 years ago with the Gf3's and GF4's....

Is PowerVR series 5 still coming out this year?

Yep. Either very late this year or early next year, I think.
