Okay, so I'm trying to play through the original FarCry again, and I'd like to use the HDR patch and 64-bit patch to enjoy it in all it's out-dated-killer-graphics-that-pwned-rigs-from-2004 goodness. :D

Anyhow, dl'd the beta 1.4 patch and 64-bit update from Guru3D but... can't play the game now. The 64-bit exe is missing any and all ground textures, and the 32-bit exe just wont load period.

Any way to get this game going with these patches/updates?

Specs:
i7 920 (stock)
4GB DDR3 1066
HD5770
Win7 Ultimate x64

Thanks ya'll! :D

I rather enjoyed it. Stereotypical FPS that pushed the graphical boundaries for its time. Considerably more enjoyable than the 2nd one, imo. :)

1.4 also introduces the fantastic bug of the enemy being able to "see" you and shoot through walls and tents and other objects even if you can't see them :D

That would be preferred vs. it's current state, as it isn't even playable right now. :(

Is it just too old? Would I be better off playing the vanilla version?

What do you have it on? Discs or off Steam?

I've played it before, just was a long time ago. If I recall correctly I had the HDR patch working with the 64-bit version and, for its age it looked incredible.

However, I think back then I was using an AMD64 proc... A64 of some sort. And nVidia based cards. Now that I have an Intel proc and ATi card, wonder if maybe those patches wont work?

These are the specs listed in the description. You shouldn't have an compatibility issues.

Hmm... now just to figure out how to get it working.

Did a quick google search and found an article about the 64 bit edition and 1.4 patch. Apparently you're not supposed to install both. But this doesn't seem right, I could have sworn I had both working before- and for the games' age it did look rather incredible.

I was thinking about reinstalling Farcry for play through again in 3D.
Also you guys should check out FarCry 2010 Mod. I think they're done with the first few missions now. Looks incredible!

FarCry is probably the only game that has a noticable visual impact from ATI using FP16 rendering in some older titles.

It's really a non-issue as far as I'm concerned except for in FarCry where little things like the water edges do appear noticable. Try turning off catAI for farcry and see if that solves any other issues as well. Performance will drop but you should be able to run it maxed out with full AA/AF anyway.

Reinstall without the HDR patch, it's a trouble maker and quite frankly doesn't add to the experience much even if it does work.
http://www.tweakguides.com/Farcry_4.html

An 'Experimental' Version 1.4 patch was leaked a while ago and is available at a range of places such as Guru3D. This patch is 5MB in size, and supposedly allows the use of HDR Rendering in combination with Antialiasing, on both Nvidia GeForce 8 and above cards, as well as ATI X1000 series or newer cards. To install this patch, you will have to extract the contents of the archive and overwrite the original versions in your Far Cry directories. Note however that this patch is quite likely to cause problems, so it is not recommended you install it unless you absolutely want to experiment with this functionality.

For 64 bit, don't install the 1.4 patch.

Finally, for people running 64-bit based systems on a 64-bit OS (like Windows XP Professional x64), you can install two Version 1.32 AMD64 patches - the Far Cry 64-bit Patch, and the Far Cry 64-bit Extra Content Pack, both downloadable from FileShack or 3DGamers among other places. These patches are described in detail here, but basically they improve performance on 64-bit machines (both Intel and AMD), and provide additional content such as improved textures, increased view distance and two new mutliplayer maps. Installing the 64-bit patches also provide a built-in No-CD for Far Cry, whereby you will no longer need to keep the game CD in the drive to play the game. If you're running the 64-bit patches on a 64-bit machine, don't install the latest 1.4 Patch.

Great game imo, enjoy. :)

i installed FC again a few months ago with some texture update or something like that ;) but some textures are screwy.

so, 1.32 patch and the 64bit patch together is what we would want? i'm a bit confused ...
