Well i know that for sometime my BC2 performance slowdown is mainly due to my Dual Core system, i do some editing/encoding so again Quads would be handy...

I don't want to go full i7core upgrade path just yet because it is doing a pretty decent job atm, and atm my only path for a Quad seems to be the Q9505, i am not familiar much with this chip i haven't seen much about it...but based on the stats it seems it is slithly slower than my 3ghz dual core...so shouldn't c much of a performance drops on games that don't use quads but use dual...but i think games like BC2 would gain some....

What are your thoughts? Worth it? Wait for next line up of CPU's do full upgrade....

It's about 250AUD btw...

Intel CORE 2 QUAD Q9505/2.83GHz/6MB CACHE/1333FSB/LGA775 Intel CORE 2 QUAD Q9505/2.83GHz/6MB CACHE/1333FSB/LGA775

Any other quads i can go in the c2q series?...It's a bit hard to find since i7 been out for awhile...

Personally i would get a Q8300/Q8400 that can be found for around 170AUD and save those 80 bucks for something else down the line. If you consider overcloking, then those 2 cpus offer even more value.

Then, in one year or two i will do a full system upgrade to whatever is best on the market.

PS: It's a pity you don't have a AMD mobo, in terms of value/perfomance i think the new Athlon X4's are the best right now.

Cheers.

Good question. I have been looking at the same thing since my dual core has been holding back my BC2 performance as well, and I predict it's not going to get any better when BF3 launches.

Does the extra 6MB of L2 cache on the Q9550 warrant the cost over the Q9505?

I think that your CPU AND RAM is holding you back, bro. Get a Quad and more RAM, you should be good to go. ;)

I have 4GB, but faster RAM would improve my OC potential. I may just wait until Christmas time and go either i7 or X6.

I went from a AMD x2 4200+ @ 2.6ghz to a Q8300 2.5 with the intent of getting to 3.0ghz just for bad company 2. With the latest drivers I rarely dip below 40 fps on med/high settings. I am unable to reach 3.0 ghz with the mobo I got with the cpu and unfortunately the Q8300 doesn't quite get the performance I'd like at 2.5Ghz.

you gotta remember that a quad will not only give you benefits in BC2 but also newer games :)

I wouldn't bother with i7 since SB is right around the corner and appears to outperform the current i7's.

If you have a microcenter near you you could get a q9300 for $140. Get it to around 3.2Ghz and you'd be looking at a pretty big upgrade.

Buddy of mine went from an original e6400 to an AMD 965 and his fps in bc2 more than doubled.

Agreed.
I recently had to edit a 2 hour HD video of a wedding I recorded with my Canon HD camcorder. This Q9550 did an outstanding job handling it.
