About a week ago my rig got a knock from a falling box. It's a customized Gigabyte Aurora 3D. Itís housed two water cooled systems, I've had it for quite some time. It looks like when it got knocked the headphone jack grounded out on the case and the power lead that connects to the cases front panel PCB board just fried. The entire cable melted in an instant with a huge cloud smoke filling the room with that o so present electrical fire smell. I lost the entire front panel. USB, audio, the power switch doesn't even work anymore. The rest of the system appears to be okay I just have to turn it on with a screwdriver now. So it's new case time.

I'm looking at this new NZXT Phantom. It's within my range and has a lot of space to work with. It also has factory cut water cooling hose holes, a powerful integrated fan controller and space for like 7 huge fans, 3 being 200mm. I can't find much wrong with it besides I like metal rather than any plastic but I think the case looks good and I might get it.

looks decent on inside, but outside looks rather cheap, to much plastic

nekro hates plastic- he doesn't even own a debit or credit card! Poor guy had the darndest time ordering on-line untill e-tailers started accepting paypal. :(

Seriously though, the case looks nice. :)

Not a fan of the exterior but seems like a decent case for sure.

Yeah you guys kind of hit right on how I feal about it. I'm not big on plastic at all but I love the fan controller. I currently use 8 fans along with my water cooling. So I use a fan controller that takes up a bay. I may still have to use it for the radiator fans.

I want to keep under $150 and I would love a window instead of mesh and maybe less fans but I must have the water cooling holes. I've read that this case comes with hardware to mount dual rads but I can't find details. Maybe I'll just give them a call.

The Aurora 3D was kick ass case. Brushed aluminum front door, all aluminum body. I could stand on top of the case.

I've looked at a lot of other cases I only want a full ATX tower. What I really like about the Phantom is the space between the video card and hard drive cage. With the 280GTX I have a very hard time fitting it in and pulling it out. Haha that's what I said...last night. It's amazing it even fits and a lot of cases look to be exactly the same. The Phantom has major room.

The GIGABYTE Sumo looks pretty good and very solid but exactly the same frame as my current one and many others.

Why don't you buy another Aurora 3d? Or try buying the front panel pcb and cable direct from Gigabyte?

I REALLY like this one, but it might be too expensive.

Yeah I already called Gigabyte and tried to go that route. They no longer carry parts for it. I would just buy the same one but I wouldn't mind a new case with more space and better airflow along with the PSU being mounted on the bottom. I'm not even sure about the Phantom now, I just read the headphone jack has a static issue with HDD activity.

I'm also looking at the Antec Twelve Hundred $159.00

It fits all the requirements but it's just not very unique. I wish I could find another case with the front panel connections on the side.

I'd take a hard look at the HAF-X as well. I think it's superior to the 1200 in just about every way.

HAF-X is very nice too. Whatever my next case will be, it MUST have fan filters.

thanks dude. i saved link. no time to do it now, but i will have to attack this at some point. I got a ridiculous amount of dust in my computer, and it is tedious to clean it often.

Oooo I had looked at the coolmaster HAF 932 but I missed the HAF X. That's pretty nice. I'm going to have to look into it more. That Thermaltake is very nice but yeah a little too much. I also want the new case to have a painted inside. That HAF X is almost as large as the NZXT too.

I've used the HAF-922, and the HAF-X.... both feel nice inside, and the black painted inside along with rubber gromets are nice for wiring.... but I can't really say I like them.

The highly molded exterior of the HAF-X makes it feel very cheap, same with the 922.

Personally I think one of these 2 will be my next case.

Both seem really clean as far as build quality, and yes they're expensive, but I trust that you'd get what you pay for, they both come very highly regarded as being top-notch cases

Why did he use a filter when he has the fan as exhaust.

I didn't watch the video all the way through but I imagine to keep the dust in of course.... :p

Thermaltake Spedo is the best case i worked with by now. A lot of space, excellent for cable management, and very good airflow

I used some window screening on my HAF 922 and while it doesn't stop all the dust it helps. I take a small 2.5 gal 2.5 hp shop vac (about $25 from Lowes) and blow it out every couple months and it stays pretty clean.

LOL. I would take the second one. I would love that Corsair case but yeah a bit too much. That cool master is nice but I wish it had a window.
