Hi,

I have an ASUS A7N 266 VM Motherboard (nForce). I can use the line in port of the on board audio as rear channel in Windows. But can I enable this feature in Linux.

I tried for some time with the ALSA and OSS driver but failed miserably

Any help will be appreciated ...

have u installed gnome-alsamixer?
if not then grab it and install it.
After installed, execute it and tick on the tick box labelled as "Line in As Surround"
then don't forget to unmute surround
that's it :D
good luck
