I wonder how much better the fan cooling is compared to the default :D

Uh this is nice:

Tri-SLI with 3x30" user feedback:

Interesting and beasty cards.

Though it kind of seems that 3gb is overkill for the card. I think they need a much faster card for 3gb vram. On metro when he could get it to use 2gb+ it was unplayable. Then when he dropped it to playable settings the vram usage was below 2gb.

3GB is the easiest method to increase the memory for a 580 card. That's why they went with 3GB.

Of course more GPU power is necessary as well. That's the beauty of a 3x30" setup - it eats GPUs for breakfast and you're always in the need for the next best thing :)

Yeah, thats what I didn't like about the 580 in the first place. 1.5GB wasn't much of an increase over my 1gb 5870s so I was forced to go with 2gb 6970's pretty much. Now they have the 3gb that you can't even use. From one extreme to the other pretty much. Oh well, they are still great cards.

I found this too.

Nice find!

Looks like the perfect solution for such a display setup, for now.
Can't wait to get mine. They should be available next week but I somehow doubt that...

Except for the fact that he used the 263.09 drivers. I found these to be a bit buggy. The 266.58 are faster and better drivers. If he was going to use the latest ATI drivers, he should have done the same with Nvida's as well. Other than thta it is a very good article. Just love the portrait mode. :D

10.12a doesn't even officially support the 6970's. Only driver that does is 11.1a so far. It was fair for nVidia if you ask me, not ATI.

Yeah, but the 263.09 where the first 580 drivers and not very good at that either. At least the ATI drivers where up to date.

Cards are now listed :) So I've ordered three Palit 3GBs, a Rampage III Extreme to run them and a ASUS Xonar D2X because I now need a PCIe based soundcard.

If I'm lucky, I'll get the stuff early next week.

can you buy me some waterblocks for my 6970's?

Why would I do that? :p

You, apparently, don't have a shortage of cash.

And I was right...

This cooler is not up to the task for Tri-SLI. Crysis or Metro crashes within 5-10min because the top GPU reaches 102C.

Gonna install a fan, like Vega on [H]/XS suggested.

That's ****ty. You would think a fancy cooler like would work better than the stock one.

Crank that fan speed.

it's obvious you need water cooling now.

Some fancy coolers are better.

But with chips like on the GTX 480 or 580, nV had to already use a great cooler. Just building a similar performing Dual Slot cooler is a challenge, not to mention a better one. That's why I try to avoid non-reference designs but this time I had no choice.

My temps are similar to Vega's. But the guy on the EVGA forum has much lower temps somehow...

Yeah I'm definitely going to change the fan profile.

Looks like his fan speed is always over 90%

Well at least you get to play that's the most important thing.:)
Edit: change your sig

Indeed. That's quite a relief. But I'm going to test more games.
Crysis was only at 2560x1600. It's too demanding for Surround.

Because of the Surround setup, other games might also be a challenge temp wise :o
iRacing should be in the green zone, that's important.
I'll see how that goes over the weekend.

You should try out the new 266.77 drivers. They have some nice speed improvements.

Holy crap this custom cooler design is flawed :headexplode: It's by far the worst cooler I've ever used since they went Dual Slot.

They should have used the reference cooler! Never had any issues with those, even with a X-Fi sandwiched right between the SLI'd cards.

But not even that is possible with this POS cooler. For example, if I use two cards in SLI and place the Xonar right below the bottom card, that card runs 12C hotter than the top card! The top card has 2 free slots to breath in this case. If I place the Xonar above the Palit, temperatures are equal (1 PCI/PCIe slot breath room per card).

Did quite some testing today and Tri-SLI seems impossible to run in a normal configuration with a closed case. Luckily 2-way SLI works fine and I can at least use the 3GB VRAM. That's what I'll probably end up using.
I'm going to keep the 3rd card anyway until the Crysis 2 Demo hits ;)

If they would fit with SLI and your sound card. :)
