When I go off to university next year, I'll need a car. :p

The thing is, I really really want a brand new BMW M3. However, if my father says "No" I'll have to work to earn one.

My question is, what kind of jobs pay $800-$1,000 a month? This will not be by "actual" job, just something to earn enough to pay for the car then it's over.

Oh! And it needs to be a part-time job as I'll be studying too!

But how long would I have to work there to earn that much a month?

Um.

None that are part time--full time, yeah, probably any of the "starter jobs" (fast food, grocery store, etc.), but even that wouldn't pay for a BMW M3 (unless your dad paid for, I dunno, 25k).

Yeah, but you see if you lease the car, you only have to pay around $900 a month (can go up or down depending on options in the car).

... why would you EVER lease a car. You spend more money.

Have your dad buy you a "crappy" car (sub-15k), use that during college, save your money, then as a graduation present combine your money and what he'll give you and get a Beamer.

Hmm, part time (say 20 hours a week) and 800 bucks a month. That works out to about 10 bucks an hour. Its hard to find part time jobs that pay that much. Maybe changing diapers at an old people's home, or driving delivery trucks or something.

You fail to include taxes.

I'm on around 680 a month, and its going to take me a long time to start getting a higher salary. Hell 12k a year would be a absolute fortune for me:p :D

Lets say a car costs $50,000. With taxes, what would the total price be?

about $50,000 by my guess:p

With fedreal, state and local taxes I make $5.22 a year. :( I'm saving up to buy a Snickers candy bar I've had my eye on for some time.

I don't know about the UAE... but in the US, do you pay sales tax on cars?

If so, then you add between 6% and 9% of the cost right there. I don't know for sure, though. And I don't think you get any tax breaks for a car lease or anything like that (unless you try to classify it as tax deductible, which is BS).

Kain, do what I told you.

Or hell, buy a decent motorcycle for 10-12 grand, save your money, and then buy a nice car.

Don't worry peeps. :p

This was just an idea. ;)

You need a job that pays around $9 an hour. Then there is insurance, food, books, supplies, gas, entertainment, girls (guys if you into that) and other outgoings that you don't plan on. Good luck with such expensive tastes. ;)

My advice is don't try to start at the top. Start exactly where you are and slowly move up there. If you start at the top there is no place else to go and then you get restless and bored.

On second thought, the idea of a kid getting a BMW like that to start college in makes me physically ill and I think it'd be keyed mercilessly just on general principles. :)

Buy yourself a decent, cheap second-hand car for school. Save the good ride for afterwards. ;)

I agree. I was in college long ago. Do you know how many people will throw up in your ride? Ever cleaned barf out of the center console? Not to mention the wear and tear your friends will put into your car.

Drive a spiffy BMW at college and I guarantee you'll have some, just the wrong kinds and for the wrong reasons.
