To date, I have emailed Brian Burke, Derek Perez, and Carrie Cowan asking them why they had to devalue the 5800 by taking it off their website, and telling the reviewers they have learned from that mistake.

And as soon as NV38 comes out and fixes the infernal flickering issues, the NV35/34/31 will be swept under the rug also, and I don't blame them!

Hmm, since it kinda goes along with several posts in this thread, here's my question: how can I get ahold of nVidia to ask a question about their drivers? Ever since the early 4x.xx series drivers, DVD playback has been disabled on my card, and after reading around it seems nVidia blocked the playback on non-Macrovision certified cards with TV-out because of a bug in DirectX 8. Obviously the problem should be nonexistant now, but the driver issue still remains. Contacting the manufacturer does nothing because they're not in charge of nVidia's drivers.

Yup, that's it in a nutshell. :)

Funny thing, I e-mailed Carrie Cowan today and got a reply within minutes...and we were both pleasant without any cursing or nothing!

I'm glad you had a good experience with them.

Mine was the opposite. (and like I said, I was polite)

As said, NVIDIA does not provide technical support. I don't think they will answer your question. The only thing you can do is bug your card manufacturer and hope they bug NVIDIA.

if i recall, the new drivers detect if your card properly outputs macrovision protection scheem though the svideo.

What is macrovision? Its some special stuff you can put on video output to make VCR's NOT record.

It is LAW that all VCR's have macrovision chips in them, so protected content CANNOT be recorded. To prove this, take 2 vcr's and have one record the other, put in a store bought movie and the copy will be really dark.

now, DVD's have the same thing on it, but with most nvidia cards it did not out put macrovision code.

What this means, is that with a PC and a nvidia card that dosent put out macrovision, you could copy your DVD's to tape.

THe movie industry i belive forced nvidia's drivers to report if it dosent support macrovision, then the dvd players all have to not work. I think they sued or thretend or something, i personly think nvidia should of took a stand.......

from the driverheaven interview (http://www.driverheaven.net/dhinterviews/nvidia/)
Zardon: How can you see nvidia’s interactions with the general enthusiast community changing in the future?

Derek: I think you’ll see a couple of things. First of all – we’ve always monitored the community and listened to what they said – but very rarely have we communicated directly with them. So you’ll see more NV people participating in public forums – answering questions and laying to rest rumors and speculation. Also – you’ll see us sponsor more LAN parties, Gamefest, and so on. Doing tutorials, give-aways, sponsorships and more.

From my solitary experience, nVidia's stance when someone pokes fun at them is to threaten legal action.

Yeah, 'cept it's against corporate rules for them to post on boards.

Think they're going to change their policies? Or do you think nVidia employess are going to have to get corporate permission every time before they post?

They're talking the talk great, but I haven't seen a single change yet.

Out of curiousity, what makes you think so? I thought about 2-3 weeks ago that they were really going to make a sincere effort and I got proven totally wrong, what is it that indicates to you that they really are planning on changing?

I've been right about NVIDIA's PR department in the past. I think I'll be right here again.

Really? I'm not familar with your previous calls & insites into nVidia's PR...what was that about?

I just don't see how they can change at all with Derek Perez at the helm there...he just does NOT "get it" at ALL!

It's kind of impossible to fix a problem you don't have a problem with.... ;)

Dig, I predicted the PR blitz that occurred recently. More importantly, though, I predicted that they would release info about their optimizations and how they would try to make sure that they didn't affect IQ in order to have a clean slate for NV40.

But yes. They will start visiting boards. It's been far too successful for ATI for NVIDIA to simply ignore it.

Ok, NOW I get what you're saying more. I thought you were implying they're going to do a 180 degree turn-around and get honest and quit lying, all you're saying is they ARE going to be making a board presence soon.

You're not saying that you think they're going to change their tactics, just that they're going to add talking on BBs to it. :)

It makes MUCH more sense that way!

I'm personally looking forward to them coming on the boards, I got a LOT I wanna talk to them about.... ;)

They can't just blatantly lie on boards, they'll get called on it. They can't retract words or change them after the fact, which I like the idea of having something to hold them to in writing.

And they'll have to deal with me, which I REALLY like.

Yeah, I made it all up..

My ISP were threatened with legal action by nVidia unless they removed the 'defamatory content' they were hosting (a.k.a. a spoof of a nVidia press release I knocked up which you might well remember). Now, I don't mind them asking for it to be removed, but the level of heavy-handiness demonstrated by them was excessive.

They also said that they would like to get in touch with me regarding their products (which I agreed to), but so far nVidia have completely failed to get in contact with me, despite having my details given to them as requested.

Patti Mikula NEVER EVER answers my emails, I don't hold it against ATI. So, she's no Brian Burke what can I say? :D

Reality dictates that there will always be issues, intellgience requires us to search for answers. I welcome NVIDIA and ATI to the forums we will ban anyone who hampers them from helping solve problems in the community. We have a zero tolerance level for abusers.

Volt is not a forum Nazi:mad:
