I've been eyeing this drive...

Don't got the money to drop down on it though, and not too sure on the reliability of Hitachi's drives. Probably gonna' wait till there's many more 3TB drives available to choose from before picking one up. :)

Hitachi are much better then WD and Seagate.

Right now the best drives are from Samsung/Hitachi then WD and Seagate last.

It makes me sick knowing that WD is buying Hitachi Storage Division.

No one can know how reliable the new 3TB drive is, since its still very new, but their 1TB, 2TB drives are great.

Newegg has it on sale for $170 with free shipping, really thinking about picking one up.

Says $349 with free shipping. If it were indeed $179 I'd likely buy two right here and now.

How did you find that? I just narrowed the search down to their 3TB drives, 7200RPM, 64MB Cache... oh, that one isn't listed as being 64MB, probably why. :o

So tempted to buy two right now, especially with that promo code and free shipping! :o

LOL. You could fit a lot of Alan Jackson on a 6tb RAID array 'Deemed.

There's one word you're over looking in that quote of mine... "likely".

Just checked my bank acount... can't do two but I'm strongly considering getting one. Only concern is if WD buys out Hitachi's HDD devision, will WD honor the warranty?

they will have to

when seagate bought maxtor, they honored all maxtor warranties

Hopefully these Hitachi drives are better than the WD ones and you don't need to contact support. Was reading a nice article at tech report yesterday, and they talk about how this drive uses a lower areal density than some of the other drives so hopefully the issues have been worked out by now.

I think i will buy two of these

http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/ads/2011/03/25/52853/Hitachi-3TB-Coolspin-Serial-ATA-600-Hard-Drive

129 for 3TB, its only 5400RPM but almost matches 2TB WD Black in performance (even beats it in few test).

Yeah I know. As good a deal the regular price is I just don't feel like shelling out $150+ for a single piece of hardware. $129 ... man that's just rediculous! :o
