Magazine-reader app Zinio for Android gets a nice little kick in the performance department with some page flip-happy hardware-acceleration. Zinio and NVIDIA have worked together to bring a new version of the popular Zinio for Android app exclusively to Android 3.1 Honeycomb tablets powered by Tegra.

This new version of Zinio for Android uses the power of Tegra‚??s GPU to leverage OpenGL ES acceleration, making complex magazine pages easy to navigate and pan around with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, and other Tegra-powered Honeycomb tablets. Unlike other magazine readers that serve up magazine pages as slow, lower-resolution JPEG images, Zinio displays high resolution, zoom-able layouts and dynamically re-scalable text.

We‚??re proud of what we‚??ve accomplished with Zinio to bring this very special version of its magazine-reader app to Android Honeycomb tablets with Tegra.¬* Zinio opened up the app‚??s source code to NVIDIA so that we could bring you the best reading experience possible on your Android tablet ‚?? NVIDIA engineers wrote and integrated code that offloads page turns, zooming, ‚??fling‚?? panning and double-tap zooming from the CPU to the GPU.

NVIDIA brings a graphics heritage like no one else can to the mobile computing space. We‚??ve excelled in creating amazing experiences that people love ‚?? and we‚??ve applied that same passion and technology to our work with Zinio.

The hardware-accelerated version of the Zinio for Android app is now available for free on the Android Market, exclusively for Tegra-powered Android Honeycomb 3.1 tablets.
