Well it's obviously the fault of this General Protection fellow, whoever the hell he is.... ;)

Seriously, we'll need a bit more information to help you. What type of computer do you have? (CPU/memory/video card/sound card/etc) Which operating system are you using? Which drivers are you using on you card?

We need more info, then we might be able to give you some help. :)

Have you checked the Splinter Cell Tech Support forums (http://forums.ubi.com/messages/overview.asp?name=scell_tech)? If I remember, the GPF occurs because it can't start the game engine, usually because the graphics card can't handle the game.

And in fact, checking the system specs (http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=sHPL8rDg&p_lva=&p_faqid=1046&p_created=1040330483&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTE3J nBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9MyZwX3Byb2R fbHZsMT04OCZwX3Byb2RfbHZsMj0yNzQmcF9jYXRfbHZsMT1_Y W55fiZwX3NvcnRfYnk9ZGZsdCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=) indicates that the game requires at least 32 MB of video memory! Looks like you're out of luck with the laptop. Sorry! Got another 'puter?

Cheers,
JND

delete your splintercell.ini file in your splintercell/system folder and it'll make a new one. You might have to delete another .ini file...I'm not sure yet which one it is. Check for the 2 most recently modified ones and delete them and new ones will be made upon launch of the game. I had this problem serveral times and this was the only workaround.

If that DirectX diagnostic report is right, ain't no way that game is going to run with your paltry 16 mb of video memory. Sorry but unless you have another computer to run it on (with a good graphics card) you're SOL.

Why in the world would they pair a 1.8 GHz CPU with only 16 mb of video memory?

Remember its a 1.8 ghz pentium 4, about as good as my old p3 550

(ok i am exagerating a bit :) )

I really don't think that it's going to run on a Radeon Mobility. :(

It should run fine on a Mobility 7500 or 9000. But it's not going to happen on the system posted above. End of story.

videocard again, if the min specs are anything like ravenshield, you will need a videocard that supports T&L(texture&lighting) in hardware. That would be a Geforce/Radeon first gens, most new games are going to have this as a required minimum, so it would be best to do a nice upgrade if you have the funds to do so.
