I am trying to decide on where I should go for university. I would like to stick to those places but I am open to other options.

So, out of the three places I mentioned, which do you think is preferable?

By the way, I visited all three places last summer but I would still like your opinions.

Bring it on home to Atlanta! Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Emory (among others) are all in the city. It's a pretty decent place (we've been here for six years so far), and most Southerners are known for their friendliness! We've got the biggest piece of granite (Stone Mountain) and the biggest drive-in restaurant (The Varsity).

And the cost of living is going to be MUCH lower than it would be in either LA or NY...

But if you're stuck with either LA or NY, I'd have to say LA. The weather tends to be a little better (although you'd have to live in California...)

Cheers,
JND

It is just a US joke. Jersey is the butt of many jokes in NY. :D Basically there isn't anything there worth seeing.

There is a reason it's called the "Arm pit of America".

From someone that's lived there. Stay away...stay very far away.

Damn, what's up with NJ?

:p

So, I guess it's between NY and LA. I've got relatives living in both places too.

By the way, how does the Six Flags park in NY compare to that of LA's? This just might make my final decision. :p

You have many parks in LA. Magic Mountain is one of the best. It is more for adults. The rides are killer. Then there is Disney Land and the others. Plus you can go to a WARM! beach with bikini women. ;) Not Nanook of the north cladded women. :D

It's not in NY but NJ. The schools in NY are some of the best but really expensive, even city college tuitions have gone up. If NYU was one of your choices and you where accepted, take it. You are guaranteed a job even if you learned absolutly nothing in the four years it took you to get your degree. Also NYC is one of those places where you are surrounded by everything that is good..er or bad for you and you dont need a car to get to them. NYC, IMO is also the Mecca for some of the best internships and jobs available.

My bad, I meant the NJ Six Flags. I went there last summer and DAMN!

Killer rides! :D

By the way, while I was in line for a ride, some chick in front of me turns to me and says "I am gonna jack-off now." I'm like :wtf:.

I said "Have fun." She's like "Oh I will." :D

You may want to carry a bullet-proof vest.

My first choice would be Florida. Add a sportbike or a nice convertible musclecar and you cant go wrong.

nothing quite like riding a street bike on the beach at Daytona.

Daytona, God I love that town.

the sun, the sand, the titty bars, cruising on Atlantic avenue, Bike week, Spring break, speed week (24hrs of daytona, superbike, Iroc, Craftsman truck series, Busch cars, Winston Cars all rolled up in one week)

Kain if we know one thing about you, You are a gearhead. (translation, someone totaly into cars)

Do yourself a favor, Drive a stock car around Tona.

Tona....Tona....Tona......

Bury me in tona............

I know Stern School of Business is hard to get in, but what about Marshall School of Business? Is it also hard to get into?

Come to NJIT, you can hang out with the dude.

As far as I'm concerned, **** NYC, their garbage travels through my town on trains regularly. I'm afraid if one derails there will be thousands of hypodermic needles littered throughout the town limits.

Kain the following lyrics are from a Bruce Springsteen song called Born to Run. Bruce was born and raised in Jersey. The song is his experience in New Jersey. Ironically the song was also a top nominee by the New Jersey government to be the official New Jersey State song.

In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected
and steppin' out over the line
Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
'Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run

Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend
I want to guard your dreams and visions
Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims
and strap your hands across my engines
Together we could break this trap
We'll run till we drop, baby we'll never go back
Will you walk with me out on the wire
'Cause baby I'm just a scared and lonely rider
But I gotta find out how it feels
I want to know if love is wild
girl I want to know if love is real

Beyond the Palace hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard
The girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors
And the boys try to look so hard
The amusement park rises bold and stark
Kids are huddled on the beach in a mist
I wanna die with you Wendy on the streets tonight
In an everlasting kiss

The highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive
Everybody's out on the run tonight
but there's no place left to hide
Together Wendy we'll live with the sadness
I'll love you with all the madness in my soul
Someday girl I don't know when
we're gonna get to that place
Where we really want to go
and we'll walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us
baby we were born to run

Well your political leanings, Kain, would probably find a better home in LA. However LA is probably the ugliest major city in the country. It's also got the worst traffic of any place I've ever been in my life...by far. It makes the NY commute look like a cakewalk by comparison. I can't believe I was sitting in gridlock at 0.30 in the morning while I was over there a couple months ago.

However, they do have good beaches and malls and movie theatres and such...so I guess if you like that, it's good. The weather is okay in LA, they get the marine layer which can make it foggy until the afternoon or even all day. The air quality is pretty lousy, but it's tolerable I guess. Tuition is very expensive, as is housing and just about everything else, so be prepared.

I have family down there so I go there fairly often. I also have family in New Jersey...

New Jersey has craptastic weather almost all year. The winters are cold, icy, and wet. You stand too long on the sidewalk and your shoes are epoxied to the ground. You get lovely freezing rain as well. The spring is okay temperature wise, but it gets wet and gloomy. You sometimes see the sun, though. In my experience, at least, the humidity starts kicking in at this time. The summers are hot, humid, and muggy. You get pouring rain too (woohoo!). The fall is probably the only good time there, weather wise. Other than that, it's okay. You can at least go to NY and the housing is cheaper (usually).

NY is pretty cool, as long as you're near NYC (or if you go to Columbia, you're in NYC). Housing is expensive as you get near the city, though. The upshot is you probably won't need a car so money saved there. Stuff generally runs a bit pricier there, but it seems it's still cheaper than LA. Weather isn't the best on the planet, sort of the same situation as with New Jersey but it does appear to get a bit colder and a little less humid, which is good. The colder means less chance of freezing rain and more chance of snow, and the less humid means the heat won't kill you. I don't know what the humidity is like in Dubai but I would imagine it's lower.

Just noticed you're going for Business. Columbia is an academically good (and likely quite enjoyable as well) choice. I would imagine Princeton in New Jersey also has a Business program. Rutgers is the other major college I know of in NJ and it has excellent academics, as well as is a really nice school. The Princeton and Rutgers folk hate eachother, though. I guess because one is an exclusive, private college and the other is a state school *shrug*.

If doing Business in California, you could try UCLA. Although I'd *really* recommend University of Santa Clara (Yes, same city as nVidia HQ), but that's in Northern California. I personally like Northern California better, but you might not. The beaches aren't that great here, but the housing is cheaper among other things and the traffic isn't nearly as bad. Also, we actually have trees and other assorted foliage as opposed to miles of concrete. The weather is more temperate, too, and we don't get the marine layer. San Francisco is a cooler city than LA also.
