Well I think things will be a lot different than years ago. Years ago here was new motherboards released once a year, same thing with chipsets. Now here are new motherboards, also with new revisions released just about every 3 to 6 months. Same things with chipsets, last year here was KT333, KT333CE, KT333CF, KT400, KT400A and now KT600 chipset. Intel told that PCI and AGP slots wont stay the same length of time as ISA did, technologies get more and more advanced, Intel wanted to see PCI and AGP disappear within 1 year after PCI Express motherboards ship.

People like backwards compatibility. Why? Because it means they don't have to upgrade unless they are absolutely forced to. PCI will be around for many years to come.

Remember Pro Tools. For a couple years, you HAD to run it on Win98 because of special Pro Tools audio drivers that had not yet been developed for XP. We're going to run into the same thing with PCI-Express. There are going to be extremely specialized PCI devices that won't have a PCI-Express version, and people who would have to get rid of them to upgrade simply won't upgrade.
