hey guys, i'm going on a 6 week vacation this winter and i will NOT be able to make it 6 weeks without my computer! so, i think my only solution is a laptop.

i need something that can atleast play old cod and dod:s. thing is i dont want to spend more than 800-900.00, is this possible? i was looking at bestbuy.ca and they have a couple that have a GT 425M, 6 gig mem, and a i5 480m for around 900.00 ... can i do better? like i said it just needs to have BluRay and be able to play a few older games. TIA

i have been mulling over buying a laptop for a couple years now, but i told my wife today we might need something so we can watch a movie in the trailer if the weathers bad while we're on vaction, and she agreed. she gets to watch movies and i won't go through withdrawls ;) thx for the link i'll check it out.

edit: that looks pretty decent.

I kinda picked that one because it fell in your price range. I am partial to nvidia actually, but check out some of the Asus laptops on newegg. They have a wide range with components that I'm sure you will like. I saw one with a 540M for a little over a grand.

I got one of these about 4 months ago. Great laptop. 17" screen is beautiful with a Nvidia 460M card. 8Gigs of ram. Very quiet and very nice cooling out of the back. A power sucker of course with the big screen and so on. Don't run it much without the power brick. Has been able to run every game Ive thrown at it. I got the xa1 but looks like you cant get that one now. Have to get the A1. Only difference is that it comes with a blue ray drive and a custom back pack I think.

Those two chips should be pretty close in speed. There is a nice long list of comparisons for notebook GPUs here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

Usually if they are in the same group or within 10 - 20 of each other on rank they are going to be fairly close.

Buy it!!

Please don't blame us if it ruins your vacation, because you stayed in your room with doors locked and " Do Not Disturb" sign on your door, while playing DNF lol.

You're welcome. :)

For a brand new laptop that's a decent price. I wish the resolution on those screens were a bit higher though. Sometimes you don't have enough horizontal resolution since all of the menu bars are stacked in that direction.

na, that wont be an issue. i'm pulling my travel trailer down to arizona/california for a 6 week stint, and i'm sure there will be crappy weather days and i'll need a computer :) plus every couple days i'll have to come here and see what i'm missing ;)
