Ok, I'll ask: Why? This seem as though this is too little--too late. We have SSD's that are fast. We can use SSD's as our system drives, and then use regular HD's for storage, until SSD's catches up and the prices drop for larger capacity SSD's.

So again I will ask, why is WD wasting time with regular SATA's?

That may be true, but that's where their money should be in R&D, instead of old tech HD's...

because doing this cost about ~$0 of R&D (same drive, change controller to the one used for SATA3), while being able to ask for higher price while little difference in perfs.

So, a no brainer for marketing...
