Howdy all - I'm trying to get a PNY FX5900 Ultra working in my system. It'll boot and drivers load, all that, but I'm experiencing the following symptoms:

1) XP boot screen shows vertical fuzzing blue lines patterned across image
2) Main windows desktop randomly loses icons
3) Dawn works fine - except for tons of grid-style dropouts across the image
4) 3dMark01 - lots of vertical and horizontal bars appear rising out of objects towards the sky or viewpoint
5) FlightSim 2002 or 2004 - purple spots on virtually all ground textures, really crappy performance

I get these same effects whether I'm using 45.23 or 44.03 drivers.

I've put all settings in BIOS setup and driver to what PNY recommends on their website, but nothing changes. Ideas would be so welcome right now!

Thanks all...

All of these symptoms (except maybe number 2) are similar to too highly clocked (or broken) video card memory. If you haven't overclocked your card's memory, I'd guess it's broken and you should RMA it and get a new one. If you have overclocked the video memory, try default clocks.

No overclocking - this is all running stock drivers, stock setup. I was afraid somebody would say that ... I'll be shortly posting opinions of PNY's RMA process... yay.

My uncle had that problem with Geforce 2 MX 200, it nothing wrong with the card, in fact it was caused by the virus. The workaround is to formatting your hard drive and everything will be fine like I did these step on my uncle PC. Also make sure you have Anti Virus and firewall enabled and download the latest updates every 3 days. Here are nasty viruses on the loose every days.

Man... with all these 5900U problems I'm kinda glad I got a 9800 Pro.
And I'm a Nvidia fan. ;)

It's sad to pay 500 for a card full of problems.

Actually it $407 for a card, not $500, many people have problems with card is due to user errors. 5900 cards do not have full of problems, Radeon 9800 cards do have problems too, take a look at Rage3D's 9800 Techinal support forum. ;) Also I dont have problem with my Leadtek 5900 Ultra. :)

Hopefully a RMA won't cost you any patience. PNY gracefully RMA'd my 5800 Ultra. However, if you want a cross-shipped card sent to you before sending your card in, you'll pay $30 for the priviledge.

I read this and R3D many times a day.
Yes both cards have problems.
I've not seen any 5900U's for 400 bucks.

FWIW NVIDIA employees get the eVGA 5900 Ultra 256MB (256-A8-N328-AX) for $385 with employee discount.

I seen many for $400 like Albatron 5900 Ultra (http://www.buyxtremegear.com/al3.html) and eVGA 5900 Ultra (http://www.gameve.com/store/gameve_viewitem.asp?idproduct=1174&showit=1).

I'll give PNY tech support a good rating so far - there was no discussion. Read off the symptoms, the tech support guy laughed (particularly at the purple splotch in Flight Sim problem) and immediately started processing the RMA...
