Upgrading...

I just read a post made by CaptnKill. I must say I'm pretty scared at the moment.

I currenly own an M810 board with an athlon xp 1600+ processor and 256mb SDR kingston memory module.

My parents recently bought me an nforce2 based board (quite an improvement) so I'm kind'a worried I'll have problems when I set it up (already working on getting DDR memory and I just bought a ti4200 :D.

The board is an FIC (First International Computer Inc.). I still haven't seen it so it must me one of the two which are shown on their website (www.fic.com.tw).

Comments, anyone?


BTW: Does my processor need the special gel thingy between the fan and the processor? I'm afraid I'll do something wrong and end up frying it :|

Forgot to mention: my parents bought it for me in the States, and will arrive in the next couple of days.

The only diffrence between the two is the chipset revision AU11 = nForce2 AU13 = nForce2 Ultra 400. main diffrence is the Ultra400 officaly supports 200/400MHz FSB while the nForce2 supports 166/333MHz FSB.

UPDATE:
Turns out my parents didn´t buy the nforce2 board :(

Instead they got a KT400 chipset (AN19E to be exact). It still kicks ass, 333Mhz FSB, agp 8x, DDR400 support, up to 3GB memory, 6 usb 2.0 ports.

Beats the hell out of my m810:D

Sure does at least you are getting a Ti4200 :D there seem to be a few quirks with the KT400 + R300 card although when you get the board it might me handy to flash the BIOS.
