It‚??s that time of year when we review and report on NVIDIA‚??s impact on the world, from an economic, social and environmental perspective. The Global Citizenship Report is designed to give all NVIDIA stakeholders a glimpse into our performance around key areas of business, including: governance and ethics, our workforce, environmental sustainability and community engagement. The 2011 Global Citizenship Report (http://www.nvidia.com/gcr) report also includes a new section, featuring a series of essays that highlight how the graphics processing unit (GPU) is helping address some of society‚??s greatest scientific challenges.

Our FY11 global citizenship report documents the
ways leading researchers and companies are using
NVIDIA GPUs to transform imaging and
other areas of science.

NVIDIA‚??s core innovation, the GPU, is best known as the engine that drives high-end computer graphics. It‚??s central to the creation of and necessary for playing video games. It‚??s used in the design of everything from airplanes to shampoo bottles. And, it‚??s a critical tool for filmmakers creating state-of-the-art visual effects.

As our technology has evolved, so have its uses. Today, whether powering super phones or tablets, workstations or supercomputers, the GPU is increasingly making a difference.

In the 2011 Global Citizenship Report, we highlight the range of issues that GPU technology is attacking ‚?? improving cancer research (http://blogs.nvidia.com/2011/07/new-cornell-collaboration-explores-gpu-computing-using-matlab/), making supercomputing sites more energy efficient (http://blogs.nvidia.com/2011/06/qked-warns-supercomputing-supercomputer-energy-power-wall-nvidia-scales-with-gpu/), helping track down the recent E.coli virus, just to name a few.
