View Full Version : Quake 4 Mods...

Hey ya'll... got inspired by the recent release of those epic Doom 3 mods.

I've never really messed with mods of any kind. I've downloaded user-made campaigns for L4D and L4D2 but that's about it.

Are there any mods for Quake 4 that'll revamp the graphics and make them... much nicer? If so, what ones and how about installing them? I never know what folder to dump stuff into, where this or that goes- instructions are next to non-existent and for the instructions that are provided they seldom seem to make much sense. :o

If it helps, my copy of Quake4 is the Steam copy. :)

Thanks ya'll. :D

Look for TCs - anything that changes that game is good. :bleh:

Ok, I didn't like it, but mods for Q4 and Prey (same engine) just didn't seem to take off the way Doom 3 did.

There's some browsing for you to do though. :)

Thanks Grey. :)

Sadly, just like the last time I checked, didn't see any mods that just jumped out at me. Nothing of the caliber of those Doom3 mods at least.

Meh, maybe it was a lost cause. Honestly, considering its age I think Quake4 looks great. Was just hoping I could maybe find some mods that made it look even better. I really, really, really enjoyed the game and was feeling like playing through it again, but was hoping for a new visual experience. :)

Oh well. :)

nothing to add, but i enjoyed the crap out of that game. not too much idiotic dialogue or distractions. pure, straight forward shooter :bleh: mp was very fun as well.

Looks like there's a Sikkmod at the first link. That might be the one to get.

I've never played the MP. Always just the SP. :)

I could always try and DL it I suppose, but that's the first one I looked at. Looked *very* underwhelming. Mostly like all he did was increase the brightness by a bajillion just going off of the screen shots.

Just found my Quake 4 box so I'm going to give a play while you reminded me. :p

Yup... just started a new game. Loving it. :)

Would love it more if there were some epic graphical over-haul mods. Mostly with the textures and such cause those are what seem to be the most dated. Maybe that and adding more polygons or whatever to make objects look less blocky.

Easy things to forgive considering the awesome atmosphere of the game though. :D

The Sikkmod rocks and makes the game look better as usual.

Oh WOW! Didn't look to be that huge a difference on the screenshots I saw. May have to give this one a go. Thanks for posting those. :)

Yep, forgot how good this game was and sikkmod just adds a nice touch to it visually. It would have been awesome if Wufen did some high res textures for the game and POM. :)

Well, I saw several POM mods I thought and I'm thinking one of those with this mod could make the game look amazing again. Will have to dabble with it when I have a bit more time.

Thanks again for those screen shots. Really shows the quality improvements of that mod. Definitely gonna' have to try it out. :D

Are you running the Steam version of Quake4 or boxed? I may need help installing this is why I ask. :o

Boxed version. Just drop the sikkmod folder into the quake4 folder.

"Unable to initialize OpenGL"

Guess I haven't run an OpenGL game in awhile :) What do you have to do to make the game run?

I just got it on Steam.

Edit: Guess I gotta update to the latest drivers that will break my 3DVS again, doh!
