I'm finally doing a base system upgrade.....CPU, RAM, mobo and HSF....I figure since I only run vid card I can milk a little more mileage out of my Power&Cooling 610w Silencer. Keeping the EVGA 570 and HDs also....

Anyway, I'm replacing what is in my sig with:
Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 Z68
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
EVGA M020 Superclock CPU Cooler

I have to work the rust out and OC this set up. What kind of CPU clocks can I expect?

Maverick, looks like you have a setup very close to what I'm getting.....Can I ask what setting you used to get 4.5ghz?
I am not new to PC or OCing but I've just been out of the game for a while. I'm rusty on my tweaking and not overly familiar with the new platform.

thx

Your 2500K will spoil you. All you have to do is turn up the voltage and the multiplier. :)

So much easier.

Congrats! This setup looks beautiful, I really love Gigabyte's new black PCBs, and that heatsink is impressive. My Z68X-UD4-B3 + i5 2500K arrived yesterday, but I forgot to take pics :thumbdwn:. I haven't yet started overclocking, but it is so much faster than my previous Q6000 that I don't really feel I need to (for the moment, at least).

The greatest thing, however, is the improvement in loading times. My SSD was running OK on my previous board, but now... Windows 7 takes 6-7 seconds to load. In fact, with 'quick boot' enabled, it takes about 30 seconds from the moment I turn the machine on to the moment all desktop items are displayed and the disk activity light goes off! :D I see our setups are now fairly similar, so I strongly recommend an SSD (I use it just for the OS and FSX, and I store all data on the WD Blacks).

I really wanted to add an SSD to this build, but to be honest I had to keep some cash in reserve for the up coming games I want.

Setting's are in my sig. These chips are so easy it's like cheating. I can make 5Ghz stable but it hovers in the high 80's under load which is way too hot for me.

That was easy :) Got love Win7. I was able to boot into my previous installation, update to the new drivers and be good to go. This is really great, I was expecting at least two days of work getting a fresh install of Win7 up to speed.

On to the OCing

I've been playing around with this system for a few days now and it seems the stable point for this CPU is 4.2ghz 1.32v ....not stellar(compared to what some of you are getting) but it is damn fast. My load temps are in the low-mid 50's C. My temps are good but I've read going much over 1.3v with these CPUs doesn't gain much.....I've tried bumping to 4.4ghz w/ 1.35v but the system goes into a reboot loop at the post screen until it auto resets.
Any ideas or is there something I'm missing...? thx
