Where are the bus licenses? How come in multiple interviews and even in the conference call the CEO said they are not interested in an intel chipset and would take a year and a half until they even consider it?

Uttar said they want to keep it a secret so .....

I dont see how Nvidia wanting to keep it a secret stops Intel from saying anything about it. Intel doesnt want anybody making chipsets but intel, i seriously doubt nvidia would have this deal without intel saying something about bus licenses

The intel n-force is a sure thing and has already been revealed on several occasions before. That's no secret.

The only secret is still what this chipset is going to support... 800MHz FSB? Prescott support? integrated dolby digital encoder card like the AMD n-force?

Well they could say it soon. I see no reason for which they'd have to reveal that stuff as soon as the project begins. Or if nVidia wanted, they could always ask Intel not to say it anytime soon for whichever reason they can imagine.

Those interviews are fairly old anyway IIRC. Also, it isn't out of the question nVidia doesn't have a license yet, but is working on the project, and will try to get the best possible deal when they have to release it.

Obviously, at standard fees, Intel would probably never refuse to give a license. So nVidia might be hoping to ask for one later, and hope to have a technology demonstration of their proposed first product ready, as well as a better foothold in the AMD market - those are all factors that might help them to get a better deal with Intel when they'll get it - if they don't have it yet, that is.

EDIT: Morrow: I disagree it has really been confirmed before. I've had yet to see anyone who said it was sure, and every time I've seen that, I've seen some fairly massive doubts from everyone. I just hope people would believe it now, but eh...

I thought Intel would not let anyone else make mobos for them since Intel has a development path that makes their own mobos and they cant have anyone competiting. That would be like Intel making their own windows or something

No, anyone who wants to license the Intel bus technology can make an Intel platform.

Well I for one hope they do make one b/c I love my Nforce2, but I want to get an intel based system again, and I have to have dolby digital encoding since it is hooked to a stereo.

I do feel that even if nvidia did make a chipset for Intel chips, it will never preform as well as the Intel chips. But they could be smart and not try, just get very very very close preformance with more features and less money, but thats not easy heh!

All they have to do is superb overclocker and at lower price and intel's crap is in trouble. Sure Intel's boards are bit more stable, but I'd never buy that crap unless I would need a server, hell I wouldnt buy it even then.

And for it to be a superb overclocker it would have to be a really really really superb overclocker, canterwood and springdale are no slouches in that department

well i mentioned it before...but the only advantage nvidia had on amd boards was the agp/pci lock and i suppose the dual channel as well...

when it comes to intel boards, they dont have much to work with

Well VIA was/is crap, there's really no competition for nforce2, people who are getting via mobo's either dont have knowledge of what they are getting or just buy prebuilt PC's

I have via myself and only recently did the creative problems started to get resolved somewhat, but o/c is still **** on this board.

You know people other than Intel make motherboards with Intel chipsets.....

Actually I heard this rumor was started over the whole "Phantom" console, that nVidia was going to be contracted to supply the mobos and the "Phantom" folks want Intel chips....which would sort of kill it in the rumor credibility department for me since anything with the word "Phantom" in it is probably BS. :(
