Give it about another month and I think you're going to here more, but it might have a different name... ;)

Can we expect a simotanieous release with the P4 4ghz? ; D

Can you please PM me too Digi? I was wondering about this as well. I remember seeing some preview scores from a year or two ago and it had horrid performance compaired to other cards. But since It was never released, I still wonder what happened to the technology. I mean, crappy or not, we still need some more competition in the graphics department.

If memory serves me correctly, the crappy scores, (slightly superior to GF4MX), that were shown long ago were by a AlphaChrome pre-production card. AlphaChrome was scrapped just as it was about to enter volume production, there had even been AlphaChrome cards announced...

The high end DeltaChrome, (F1), has been said to reach R350 performance all along, but with significantly lower clocks.
My guess is it will be released with higher clocks... I hope it will however.

Actually all we know right now is

Delta Chrome will blow the socks off every ati + nvidia card, and ONLY cost 70$.

hmm... I wonder if it will be called the delta steel or the delta iron :D

sounded interesting @ first hearing... not so interesting subsequently... but I would love to see any rumour-watch scoops on the product :D

People you are FUNNY:D

You say about speed and Hardware....

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DRIVERS???

Will they SUCKZZZZ as any previous S3 driver...

I do not care if these card is the BEST HARDWARE IN THE WORLD if the drivers are like <<MATROX>> i will still stay away....

I want my Games\software play stable and not with 10000000000 Crashes and other problems like in the old S3 days...

Actually, the main problem with old S3's Savage chips, (S3d, S4 and S2K), was not drivers, it was hardware.

About the name, I think it should be a basic element in the name, so no Delta Steel..
:D
Delta Iron could work, but why must we stick to metals? Why not Delta Hydrogen or Delta Sulphur? :D

And then we'll wake up, and find out it was all a dream. :p

We've heard this all before with Trident and their wild XP4 claims. 70% of the performance of a r9700Pro at sub $100 was promised last year. The card was eventually canned.

I predict that DeltaChrome will suffer a similar fate. It will either be canned, or it will be relegated to midrange or lowend.

Where are these early performance numbers? I don't recall seeing any. Please share.

I have never seen any performance numbers for DeltaChrome, but I did see numbers for AlphaChrome at www.s3graphics.com and at some board manufacturer, Tyan I think... The AlphaChrome performed about 20% better than a faster-model GF4MX.
It was canned because of some bug or other... the official reason was that they wanted to concentrate all efforts on Delta. .. but it seems unlikely to me that it would have been completely canned that late in developement if there was not something bad that popped up.. kind of like the V5 recall, but worse.

It was not in Chips!!!
The S3 hardware is fine
Their drivers always SUCKED

My cousin had a S3 Savage 2000 card and its drivers were strange and could not run a game decent...but anything else in WINDOWS was OK

Of course they may improve them with Delta Crome as ATI has done with Catalysts

But lets face it
I can not say that these Delta Crome has big chances of succeeding
Nvidia and at ATI is already releasing new hardware again (Radeon 9900,Geforce FX 6000 then little later NV40 and R420)

If Delta Crome has the Specs as S3 said and released somewhere next year there is NO WAY that they will succeed against ATI R420 & NV40 which both will be more powerfull
It will be a failure for sure

Oh, ok. I thought AlphaChrome was a pun about DeltaChrome being incomplete :p

P.S. S3's past hardware was far from perfect. Broken hardware TnL, anyone?

According to some former S3 employees it was the hardware that was the main problem, it was just not possible to write a good driver without offloading far too much work to the CPU... according to them.

Oops, my mistake :)

I was thinking of this Trident XP4 preview:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,746233,00.asp

My god... what the hell were these people thinking? Trident must have been on some dangerously halucinogenic drugs to think that their card was good (70% of the R9700 Pro).

You have to give them SOME credit tho.... it probably stomps a TNT 2

Do you happen to know which model that is? And will the higher-end cards use BGA memory?

GlowStick
09-18-03, 01:15 PM
I was just gonna comment on the non BGA memory.

It looks like what they are doing is makeing a 9600pro w 8 pipes, it could be very intresting! but highly unlikely!

Sotos

Hmmm

So it runs Warcraft3 even if it is not supported for S3 cards

Both S3 deltacrome high end and XGI high end solutions will be faster from 9800pro and 5900ultra as someone said

But ATI and Nvidia already are going to release the Nv38 and R360 soon
