View Full Version : Intel® Extreme Graphics ? you kidding me?
Intel® Extreme Graphics card. I know this is a PC forum area. But i'm looking at buying a dell laptop and all they say about the graphics card is that it is a Intel® Extreme Graphics card.
Are these cards POS or worth anything?
Intel + video card = STAY AWAY!
Unless of course you don't plan on playing games on it. :D
Intel makes mobile vid cards?? :D

DO NOT GET THAT LAPTOP. it will barely play the original unreal tournament at playable frates (i just use software rendering, cause it's faster). it will NOT run any new games; period. it barely runs alice, quake 3, and st: elite force. i repeat, IT IS *****E!
look for a higher-end laptop with radeon 9000, or 9600 mobility graphics, or a geforce4go 4200, or 5600 mobile graphics. those are decent.
i believe higher-end 8000 series dell laptops have decent hardware. look into those.
Intel Graphic cards= :nutkick: :bs:

actually, they have the most marketshare:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20030801102103.html
"Intel appeared to be biggest winner of market share in the second quarter with 32%, up 5 points from 27% in the Q1 2003. Total shipments of NVIDIA Corporation’s declined slightly to 27% from 31% in the first quarter. ATI Technologies gained 1 point and now its share among all graphics products shipped in the second quarter accounts for 21%. Other suppliers of graphics products, namely SiS/XGI, 3Dlabs, Matrox Graphics, Trident and S3 Graphics/VIA, either lost less than 1% or stayed flat with the Q1 2003."
but nvidia holds the market share for add-in boards.
unless of course you meant mobile chips only.

For some reason I thought ATi ruled the mobile market.
I must've been mistaken, as I thought Inhell ruled the desktop integrated, and NV ruled Add-on boards ( with ATi catching up slowly).

Hm, well i guess saying Intel Extreme Graphics is a bit ambigiuous, they use the same chip for Deskop/Laptop. Anyways, my whole college uses Intel Extreme Graphcis in both our desktops and lap tops heh.
it really dose suck.

It's Extreme for them. All things are relative.

They do own the mobile market, they are somewhere in the 60 percent range

That's because it's extremely frustrating for anything other than 2D :p
I have one in my laptop (Omnibook XE3). If you want to game on that laptop, steer clear. If you want it for 2D stuff, it's nice and cheap.

Benchmarks of Intel "Extreme" Graphics for anyone who is interested: http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030903/integrated_graphics-14.html
As you can see, nForce integrated gf4mx blows it out of the water.
3.2k for the I865G in 3dmk2k1...
= deus ex playable @ 8x6 or 10x7
=Q3 playable @ 8x6 or 10x7
=RTCW playable maybe?
=Oni Playable?
... I know, if yer gonna game, stay away from Intel Extreme... but if you're stuck with it, methinks there's still a selection of games that are playable and enjoyable on that class of hardware... Heck, I set up a Celly566 box with a GF2MX200 (1.3k 3dmarks) and found a plethora of games that the system could enjoy...
