My Reserve came in today. Promptly went and picked it up. It's great./ Just like the original Fellowship Disk. Has a Behind the scenes sneak preview of the Return of the King.
Have to say the Quality is great too.

I'll probably pick up a copy. How much did it set you back? I have it already in mpg format but the quality is so-so. Not to mention, if it's a good movie I do believe in actually paying for it. ;)

Actually. I only payed $15 US dollars for it. Aparently they made a mistake when I put mine on reserve and messed up the pricing on it. Forcing them to honor that mistake.
However the price on the Box was 29.99 Us dollars. Of Course. This was at Suncoast

Speaking of Tolkien, I had an idea for the ultimate high school English essay.
The Lord of the Rings as a Satanist Grail Myth.
I win.

Suncoast is a ripoff. You can usually get it cheaper at amazon and that's with shipping. :)

Picked up a copy at the weekend... a very good film, I must have been one of the few who hadn't seen it. Got it for a bargain £13, thanks to a nice discount from where I work. :D
I'm gonna wait and buy the trilogy set.

Just finished the reading ROTK last night for the third time. I should say almost finished, I have one more chapter and the appendix left. Those of you who enjoyed the films, I *highly* recommend you take some time and read the books. The films are great but the books are even better (IMHO).

the appendix adds so much color to the story...
most appendices are b.s. but tolkien sure took his time to make his appendices a true integration and reallu did further the story...

I agree wholeheartedly. I particularly enjoyed the story about aragorn and arwen in that appendix. Another GREAT resource online to look at in your moments of boredom, should you have any, is the Encyclopedia of Arda. I learned a LOT about westernesse, the valar, and other things that are touched on in the books but not explained very well in great detail.
Ever wonder where Shelob came from? Smaug? The encyclopedia is a great resouce. :)
I am waiting for the Platinum Series Extended Edition.

Moi aussi. :D
I bought both the original and extended versions of LOTR 1 DVD, and feel it's kind of wasting money.

Absolutely. I just watched the extended Fellowship of the Ring again. It was like the extra stuff was meant to be in there! I'm sure I'll rent Two Towers a couple of times, but I'm waiting to buy for the extended edition!
Cheers,

Don't forget the awesome DTS soundtrack!

yup... I was miffed they did not include a scene where the sword was re-forged... coz in the texts Aragorn always holds his sword high and introduces himself with it... thereby instantly establishing his lineage to all men who are in hte know...

Clarify Please. How exactly is it implemented ect?

There were plenty of extra and extended scenes. Most of them were so seamlessly integrated that my wife and I kept asking each other, "Did we see that in the theater?"
As an example, there's an extention to the intro in which it explains how the ring betrayed Isuldur. It's small, but it adds a ton to the overall mood.
The rest of it's kinda like that. No story changes or anything, just extra stuff like background, character development, etc.
(And I rented Fellowship three times, I think, before the extended edition came out -- yes, I know, I could have bought it for that much! :p)
Cheers,
JND

Well if you're going to buy both the standard and extended versions I would say it would be a bit of a waste to buy both. Personally, I waited until the extended version last time, and I'll do the same again. Besides I have plenty of other things to buy such as:
- The first 3 seasons of Babylon 5 (the 3rd season was just released)
- Recently got the 3rd season of Earth Final Conflict (ironically seasons 1 and 2 the releasing company didn't buy the rights to release those 2 seasons)
- All the Battlestar Galactica episodes will be comming out on a DVD latter this year
All of these DVD box sets will be on the pricey side, the cheapest I think, which I already got was $69.99 (up to $99.99 per B5 season).
Then I've been getting all the Dragonball/Z/GT releases (well only the uncut one's that contain the Japanese originals) as they come out, and recently picked up several of the Shadow Raiders DVDs. The final Fist of the North Star DVD shouldn't be out till next year or so though, so that will wait...
Yes, I can wait until the extended version comes out, hehe
And oh wait, I haven't gotten the Animatrix DVD yet either...
