I am running the latest "Quadro certified" driver (1.0-4365) on RedHat Linux 8.0
This is a high-end workstation/server system with all stock components. (iisted below)
Symptoms: From time to time, X-windows will freeze; the mouse still moves the cursor normally, but clicking has no effect and changing windows (like the clock and cpu monitor) stop updating. <ctrl-alt-F1> does not bring up the alternate text console.
I can still ssh into the machine.; top indicates the x-server is running running at 99.9% CPU.
When I kill the X-server, everything restarts normally, often for days. Then X will hang again (causing me to loose work in all open windows.)
Nvidia: the Quadro4 900XGL was presented as a high-reliability workstation class graphics card for running dual DVI monitors in a stable fashion. I am running the "Certified" driver on hihg-quality hardware. Yet the problem remains, and postings on various other threads suggest that suggest a similar problem has been known on other cards for some time. Please advise on how to get a stable system with this product.
I have disabled AGP temporarily, in hopes that may somehow achieve a stable system until a fix is reported.
Attached: my XF86Config file.
System configuration:
RedHat Linux 8.0
Kernel 2.4.18-18.8.0Bigmem
4GB ram
Quadro4 900XGL video card
Dual Dell 2000FP monitors on DVI
Dual Xeon 3.06Ghz processors
Supermicro X5DAE motherboard
Soundblaster Audigy sound card
3ware 7000-8 IDE raid controller
LSI Logic 53c1030 U320 SCSI controller
LSI Logic 53d1030 dual-channel U320 SCSI controller
Sony DVD RW DRU-500A optical drive
